Misses the mark
We did not get off to a good start with Palais Juliana and the list of complaints just kept growing. They were not at the airport as requested and we waited for over 30 minutes until they arrived. When we did finally get to the hotel, the extra bed we had requested had not been set up. When it finally did, it was not even a real mattress. It was a 3 inch thick pad and it cost us $40 - almost half the price of the room. The next morning breakfast was a bit skimpy for a hotel of this quality. There was salad, fruit, cereal, breads and eggs to order. One day we did actually get some other hot dishes, but on the final day there was NOTHING set out. We had to request what we wanted. Perhaps my biggest disappointment was the pool - the main reason we chose the hotel. It was simply disgusting. On the first day you could see huge black patches of slime on the tile. Later in our stay the black patches were gone, but now everything was floating around in the pool. Finally, two out of the five nights we stayed they forgot the turn down service.
I really wanted to love this hotel. It was beautiful. The setting was spectacular and the rooms were quite nice. The staff was polite and friendly, but very few had a good command of English. I think the management has a lot of kinks to iron out before they are ready to operate at anything close to capacity. An overall disappointment.
