Okay but not value for money
It may well be that the rates offered through travel agents are a lot more attractive, but I booked through Asiarooms and got what I expect is the standard online discount.
For the same price as a 5-star luxury in Bangkok such as the Sukhothai, the Settha is vastly overpriced.
The staff are very nice, so is the building and the rooms are just fine. But it all feels a bit incomplete and vaguely amateurish, and lacking in atmosphere, like a provincial outpost. For USD 150 at the max, this would be ok value. Not at USD 225.

Settha nice building , very bad quality/price ratio
The settha palace is a nice and well located building...but you don't get the quality of service you desire for a room at more than 200 dollars in laos : no free internet ,no nice attention like fruit or so in the room. We had a room on first fllor :in fact it is quide dark and you don't feel like staying for a while in it . Price for food in the hotel is crazy ,more expensive than in Champs Elysee in Paris. This place should visit some other "old colonial places" in Asia (like The pavillon in pnom Penh) to see what could be offer and what should be the price. It is at least twice too expensive for the quality you get ....And as Vientiane is small ,the location itself is not a real added value (all hotels are well located) ; I wrote this comment in my customer questionnaire and don't even get a mail from mannagement . Fly away from this palce!

Generally a nice hotel - but had...
Generally a nice hotel - but had a few problems. Stayed twice in 2 different rooms and the air-conditioning in both rooms was barely enough to cool the room. Given how hot it gets in Laos, good air-conditioning is very important. Also the included breakfast was very basic and lacked effort and any local touch - could have been a breakfast served at any 3 star hotel in the world. It certainly gave you no encouragement to eat your other meals at the hotel. Overall service was just OK - could have been both more organised and a few more smiles.
