I had a very comfortable stay at your hotel. I was impressed with the willingness on the part of most of your staff members to make my visit as comfortable as possible. Everyone was unfailingly polite. For example, because I complained of the construction noise, I was upgraded to a different room two floors up (from the 13th to the 15th floor) with no fuss. The restaurants had no problem accommodating a single diner, and the Cake Shop allowed me to purchase some Iron Buddha tea, which I had drunk in the Bella Vista Cafe and had enjoyed immensely.
My only criticism, and I tell you this in the spirit of wanting to help, is that your concierge was unaware of the ambiguousness of the English language. I checked into the hotel on Saturday, Aug. 19th, and spoke with the concierge (Fiona?) about taking a short trip to Zhuhai. I was told the cost, the time it would take to process the China visa, directions to the photo shop for visa pictures, and that "we will handle everything." I had planned to go on the following Tuesday, the 22nd. On Monday morning, the 21st, I walked to the China Travel Service office near your hotel, and saw that they had moved, but the new location was written in Chinese. I came back to the hotel, and reported to the concierge that I decided not to go to Zhuhai since I was not able to find the China Travel Service office, and time was running out on my short stay in Macau. Her reply was, "I told you we would handle it!" While saying this, she pulled out a pad of China Visa forms, at which point I told her that I was having a hard time finding the photo shop, to which she admonished me for not having remembered the hurried directions she gave me two days ago! At that point, I told her it was too much trouble for such a short trip, and to please cancel the hold she had put on a driver to Zhuhai. I left feeling very disappointed. I would like to say that this situation could have been better handled by doing the following: The concierge should have stated more clearly that she would do the legwork for processing the visa herself. She also should have given me the China Visa form at the first inquiry on Saturday so that I could fill it out and have time to consider taking the trip. Thirdly, she should have taken out a map and drawn a big circle around the loction of the photo shop. All of these things would have been helpful, but was it was, I felt confused and dismissed.
