After realising that firstly one cannot walk as the crow flies and then that taxi drivers in Macau aren't neccessarily comfortable with even proper names I found a taxi to take me from the ferry terminal to whence I had got the airport bus. I was surprised at how bright and modern the hotel was,and amused to note that the restaurant was full of people playing Mah Jong. The room couldn't have been better large with a view over an old Portugese era building; sparkly bathroom and plsti wrapped diposable slippers. Frankly there couldn't be a better location unless you are seriously into gambling and Mah Jongs not your game and you wanted to be at close proximity to the tables in some of the glitzier hotels on the waterfront. I walked up to the Guia fort lighthouse the nest morning past the tai chi practioners and other exercise enthusiasts thinking well this is perfect. It is also an easy walk to much of the rest of the historic quarter. Perhaps not quite for budget travellers at even an internet price of $70 : 3 - 4 times the cost of some pretty adequate places I had been staying at in my previous days on this trip in Vietnam ---- but I am not sure where in Macau would be.. along with Hong Kong it isn't a cheap stay it seems: but I was very pleased to have had my last night in Asia in as much luxury as I could ever require for the price of a very ordinary hotel in London. The staff are also very friendly and helpful from the manager whom I met down. I couldn't reccomend Hotel Guia more highly.

Guia is the choice that i'd recommend you to stay in Macau. Because it's not like those casino hotels in downtown. Quite peaceful and compact room size. Not too far from senado square just catch the bus No.6 or you can walk along the street there. Well, I'd say.. the room is really nice with the view of Guia Lighthouse that the receptionist girl provided me. And she's absolutely willing to help you in any kind of trouble you have. I appreciated her help so much.

I booked this hotel for my parents during their stay in Macau. They loved the room and was very impressed by the cleaniess of the bathroom and the room. They will definitely book Guia Hotel again for their next visit to Macau. The staff there are also very friendly and helpful. They enjoyed the restaurant food in the hotel too.

If you like to stay in the...
If you like to stay in the more quiet part of macau then Guia is a good choice. It's in the hilly part of the city thus giving it a more scenic feel. While it's not in the center of the city, it's about 10 minutes by cab from the main shopping areas. The rooms are smaller than usual but tastefully designed and complete with the usual stuff - TV, mini bar, etc. The linens, beds, pillows are up to par. If you're able to get a room with a balcony, then you get more than your money's worth. The bathrooms, while small, are very tastefully done. Overall, I'd recommend it.
