Never been to Penang and decided that...
Never been to Penang and decided that Gurney Drive made sense - not too far from the centre, and on the sea. We had a very pleasant room facing the sea with nice views and found it handy as on several bus routes (you can get a great bus passport for 20RM for 7 days). Wouldn't want to swim in the sea on Gurney Drive, but pool was OK. Lots of local places to eat.

I stayed in Evergreen Laurel in Jun...
I stayed in Evergreen Laurel in Jun '10. Everything was perfect except that the checking-in was too long a wait, we waited for 3 hours to get our room.

Stayed here three times in the last...
Stayed here three times in the last two years. Rooms are well appointed and very quiet. Located out of Georgetown on Gurney drive not far away from an excellent upmarket shopping plaza. The breakfast and buffet lunch and dinner are all excellent and inexpensive. More a business man's hotel than for families.

The hotel staff are friendly and obliging. I love the free internet access in the room. Most hotels charge at least $20 to $30 for a day's usage. As there are so many places to get food, I did not have a chance to try the hotel's food. The location is quite convenient to go to Gurney Plaza. However because of the hot weather I spent more than 200MR on taxi fares. Each trip costs at least 10MR. I wish the hotel can provide shuttle to the frequently visited places.

Had a wonderful stay during March 2010. Nice hotel with good location on Gurney Drive. Every aspect is good and nice... except few minor issues. Opted for Sea view Room, but being assigned on 7th Level, view is partially obstructed by Trees in front... Opted for Non-smoking floor, 7th level being Non-smoking floor still smells of Smoke. May be due to Common air circulation for all floors. Need to look in to it. Overall, a wonderful experience...

Seaview rooms -- no connecting rooms. Not...
Seaview rooms -- no connecting rooms. Not suitable for family. Most of d rooms r twin bed rooms, hardly find double bed-- not suitable for husband n wife to occupy. l did request for a double bed room, unfortunately they just joinned d 2 single beds together.( that's is consider as a double bed room ).

Lovely hotel, polite and helpful staff, especially...
Lovely hotel, polite and helpful staff, especially as we checked in early. Breakfast very good, brilliant choice, lovely view from room over the sea. Would definitely stay here again and will be checking out other Evergreen Hotels in the future.

We were really happy with the stay...
We were really happy with the stay @ Evergreen. Ms Pat Lim, the director of sales, went out of her way to ensure we were able to get 2 rooms side by side, for my kids to stay with us. Overall the staff were friendly and professional. Well worth the stay!!!

Hotel sucks and NO WAY it's even...
Hotel sucks and NO WAY it's even near the 5 stars they say it has. It's a stinky old hotel and very dated for about 3 stars and a so-so location and VERY slow internet without wi-fi. The Starbucks free internet was much faster. No cable or satellite tv so you can choose from wide array of three English channels: Discovery, CNN and one with mixed stuff... repeated daily. It's far from everything and transportation and not taxi stand near by. When I used hotel car the manager just lied to me about cab availability in the town.
