Worthy of its Name
The family had a wonderful experience staying in Shangri-La at Tanjong Aru. There was something for everyone. My son loved the cool zone with its Wii and my daughter enjoyed doing the arts and craft as well as baking the cookies. My husband enjoyed the clean and spacious rooms with the view of the sea, especially at the club lounge. As for me, I enjoyed the birdwatching activity tremendously, with the help of the nature guide, we could observe the green heron and two chicks in their nest.
My compliment also goes to the Shang Palacce. The beef in honey and crispy noodles was fabulously delicious and I especially loved the huge glass wall overlooking the garden and the sea beyond. We could observe the fantails and chestnut munias hopping and fluttering about in the shrubs as we had our meal. The staff were friendly and the hotel is highly recommended for family with young children.

Loved our time at Tanjung. We upgraded to an ocean view room which really made a difference. The view was gorgeous. Service by the pool was slow but the satay sticks are to die for. Would not stay anywhere else if I went back to Sabah.

5.location is not so good. there is no shuttle bus to the town. Use the taxi.(take 10min, 15RM)
4 days was not long enough and...
4 days was not long enough and we could have happily stayed a few more. The resort is truely 5 star, the service was excellent. The Chi Day Spa was the best I've been to. A very romantic and relaxing experience.

I booked 2 rooms, room services provided to the two
were different. One was provided with fruits and utensils, the other were not provided with fruits at all. As I consider this is a 5 star hotel with a 5star
pricing. The management surely could afford a free wifi broadband in each rooms for the convenience of the guests. I have stayed in other 3 star hotels which they offered free wifi broadband in the rooms.
probably will only stay again, if free wifi is provided in each rooms in future.

Good hotel, buffet breakfast & dinner were plentiful. Beach was slightly disappointing. Kota Kinabalu was pleasantly better than anticipated, beach side restaurants outside the hotel are good as is boardwalk with bars/restaurants in town. Hotel could put a higher profile on availability of golf.

We did the boat trip to one of the islands little bit expensive but a nice day trip to a small snorkelling island

Enjoyed our stay at the Shangri-La. Good for families, stayed with my wife and 5 year old daughter. Kids club was great. Buffets my daughter ate for free. Breakfast fine. Buffet dinner in the Tatu restaurant brilliant - could eat there every day, for a 5 star hotel the buffet was reasonably priced. Hotel Chinese restaurant also good. The Italian very expensive and nothing special. Look out for daily afternoon specials by the pool, here the food is reasonable. Plenty of tours and boat trips available but these are expensive. If I was going to Kota Kinabalu again, I'd happily stay in this hotel. Staff are friendly and helpful with a good command of the English Language. Thanks to all.
