Overall an excellent resort with extremely friendly and knowledgable staff and superb levels of customer service. There are plenty of activities for you to do, from the nature reserve with a small and intimate orangutan reserve (highly reccomended compared to other reserves) through to bannana boats & kayaking.
The only criticisms I would have are that, we were left to find out about alot of activities ourselves and when we did we found that there was always a cost involved and that very little was included in the price of the hotel. Given the price of rooms per night, this is something I would bear in mind if you are already stretching your self by staying here. This is a very family friendly resort, something else to bare in mind, should you be considering this hotel for a honeymoon as we had.

Very relaxing and beautiful place to stay
We stayed in Rain forest Room on 6th floor beg of June. I had read some of the reviews before we went so was a bit concerned the Garden Wing was going to be really shabby. However the room was fine, definitely not 5* but room was quite big - older inside with wooden furniture and 2 large single beds pushed together, but no gap in between and was a comfortable although quite hard bed. Nice size balcony overlooking rain forest, we were offered the room with sea views for $25USD extra per night which we didn't take. Although would have been quite good to watch the sunset and get some sun in the room, as our stuff didn't dry very well when we hung outside to dry.
The staff were so friendly and helpful, nothing was a problem and it just made everything feel even more easy and relaxing.
Renovations were going on, on the Ocean side, but wasn't too much of an inconvenience, could hear them with their tools when we were at the main pool but wasn't too loud.
The whole place was quite quiet which was nice and relaxing, although almost a bit too quiet in the evenings, the bar down by the beach empties out after happy hour. We found the games room and had a few games of pool and chess which was quite cool.
Great to see books, games, sun screen and insect repellents offered beside pool. We really enjoyed the pool, big enough to not feel crowded and the big rocks were great to relax on . Sunloungers very comfortable and big umbrellas were great, even kept us dry when it rained. Was a bit concerned when saw the weather forecast for rain and thunderstorms every day we were there, however usually only last a couple of hours in the afternoon or evening so wasn't really a problem.
lovely stay
We are a family with one teenaged child and stayed in a garden view room for 4 nights over new years eve. The resort is set in beautiful grounds and the staff are very friendly and helpful. This is a lovely 5 star resort and it is our second time here. I would definately recommend it to anyone wanting a resort holiday in a beautiful setting on a private beach.
Amazing Staff
On arrival we upgraded our room to Ocean room, and we were not disappointed.
The double bath on the balcony was fantastic for watching the sun go down! the staff are all incredibly friendly and very attentive.
The room was fabulous and the little extras and attention to detail was great.
The food was excellent and there was a good choice.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone who would like a little bit of luxury and to feel pampered...

Shangri-La is situated on a nice stretch...
Shangri-La is situated on a nice stretch of beach some kilometer outside of KL. There is a shuttle bus available for 25 Ringit per Person to the city center.
The rooms are quite large and have a huge cosy bed.
We stayed in the Garden Wing which was fine. The pool area is also quite large and offers a lot of sunbeds. In the hotel there are a lot of families with kids, but because of the size of the pool and the surrounding garding you can always find a quite spot.
There are 4 restaurants, expect European prices for the food. But it is surely worth it, the offer is fantastic and Service in the resraurants is good.

Maybe you could consider providing free shuttle service to nearby shopping areas, handicraft centers or frequent service to 1 Borneo.
Rangers who conduct nature walk should carry a first aid kit with them.

Rasa Ria was wonderful to my family and we never forget their service & facilities.
I would like to recommend this resort if you want to enjoy with your family happily.
However they have one weakpoint which is longer distance from downtown area and customer should pay for shuttle bus charge.

even though this hotel was way above...
even though this hotel was way above our usual budget our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. the food was fabulous and the staff extremely pleasant. we recommend it as a splurge. also really enjoyed seeing the orangutan orphans which have been adopted on site.

My family really enjoyed our stay. You don't really have to leave the resort because everything is there. My kids loved the orangutan nature reserve since you see them in their natural habitat.
The trek to the beach is quite long though for kids and it would be nice if there were satellite facilities nearby(e.g. refreshment stand, huts and/or umbrellas. The restaurant food was superb (try the chicken satay sticks- a dozen an order) as well as the service.
This place is definitely worth coming back to.
