A pleasantly quirky hotel
It was very refreshing to stay in accommodation that had a 'soul'. The colonial design of the building stood out from the rest of the high rise hotels in Kota Kinabalu. I liked the fact that there were less than 40 rooms. Our room was clean and well appointed (the bathroom was very luxurious.) The staff were most helpful and courteous. The breakfasts were generous and quite tasty, but the best meals were served in the restaurant at lunch time and dinner. We had a delicious pizza and spaghetti bolognaise.
The Jessleton is in a great position-right by the Chinese market, which occurs every Sunday. It is also only a 10 minute walk to Jesselton Point.

Great Stay
We stayed at the Jesselton for two nights, a couple with one child aged 11. The room itself was clean, comfortable and stylish in an old world type character. Location is excellent for walking to most of the attractions in town. The staff were friendly and helpful - would definitely stay there again.

It's an excellent stay with a very good location. The whole colonial theme of the hotel is coherent throughout. From the wooden trimmings and furniture to the marble-top bathroom fitting, complete with bathtub to central light control console, everything spells five-star.
It seems that the hotel had a recent retro-fit, everything looks and feels new. The proximity to good food is definitely a plus.
It would almost be perfect except for the CRT television which is a bit off colour. Nevertheless, a value for money with excellent location. What more can u ask , except for a LCD TV.

The location of the hotel is fantastic....
The location of the hotel is fantastic. It's near to the jetty where you take ferries to the islands nearby and the markets where you get food and shopping. The Sunday market on Gaya street is right at the doorstep of the hotel. The room is spacious and the service is great. We had some problems with the flush and shower for a day but the hotel got that fixed immediately and even offered discounts for our stay. Overall, we had a great experience staying at the Jesselton Hotel.

The staff were helpful, but their information about surrounding businesses could be improved. The bathroom was clean, but obviously the tropical climate affected the tiling grout. We enjoyed it.

The staff were very professional and helpful. We loved the bar/restaurant area which had a lovely atmosphere to have a drink in the evening. The only downfall I have is that we asked for a non-smoking room but we could smell smoke coming in through the air con unit and next door. Would definitely stay again.

Very nice new decor, very well done with antiques mixed in with modern furnishings. Excellent service from hotel staff. Your choice of 3, off the menu, breakfast to choose from was included with our rate. Hotel offered dinner specials early afternoon and evening, we ate there 3 times and all was good. A chief from Venice, Italy was in charge of the kitchen and did an excellent job. No smoking smell that had been reported before was noticed. We stayed at the Jesselton 5 nights and enjoyed every moment. Good location, street market out front on Sundays and a 2 block walk from shopping mall and the waterfront. While checking out I had left my camera in room, hotel tracked done my taxi driver and hotel staff ran down the street with my camera before I had even noticed that it was not with me. Taxi driver told us that the Jesselton was a good hotel and very honest. I will second that.

Wonderful hotel with strong heritage value, with very friendly and personalized services. Located at the old urban core of KK, everything is within walking distance. Complimentary (free) wi-fi access for guests, accessible from all parts of the hotel is commendable and very useful. Definitely will stay in this hotel again for my next trip to KK.
