friendly and helpfull staff
the staff are friendly and helpfull, but the hotel are quite run down and cleanliness need to be improve.
Disappointing stay for the money paid
I thought I had booked a single room as it was not shown that I just paid for a dorm bed. Nevertheless I took the dorm bed. First of all nobody explained to me where the facilities are etc. I am used to get at least a quick explanation. The room itself was dirty (floor was not cleaned in a while - I saw hair and empty bottles from the predecessors). The bathroom is very unclean and a lot is broken (like the flush). There also was only cold water in the shower. For the price paid (even if it was just a dorm bed) this is not acceptable I think. It was a Friday and outside is a stage where music was played until at least 2 AM. Tough to get any sleep. Especially if you have to get up early the next morning. At least the breakfast was ok. Toast, jam and butter plus tea, coffee and fresh fruit for dessert.

Location excellent, it's in the middle of the city center, walking distance to any attraction in the city, taxi stand is just across the street, nearby ATMs, and night entertainment (the singers were awful but later they changed them, which is a band of good singers). Toilets are relatively cleaned. The staffs are really friendly. We had a good time there.

We stayed at the hotel on two separate day. On our arrival, our booking got downgraded as we understood that the rooms we wanted had leaking ceiling. So we had to share a common bathroom with other tenants. At night we had problem sleeping as the music at the pub downstairs was too loud.
We returned to KK about a week later and stayed there again. This time we were told that the booking at Asia Rooms does not guarantee us the room we want. So after some negotiation we settled on a room with a bathroom. When we were brought to the room, the attendant could not find the key. We had to volunteer to help test every single key of the bunch to get the mislabeled key. When we finally got in, it was dusty and infested with cockroaches, understandable as renovation was probably just done.

We stayed at Rainforest Lodge Last July...
We stayed at Rainforest Lodge Last July 1 to 4,2010. We were a group of 8. We booked 3 rooms. Price was reasonable and it includes an american breakfast at the Rainforest Cafe. Rooms were basic. The bathrooms always run out of toilet paper. They clean the rooms upon your request. The receptionists were very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, service at the cafe during breakfast was very slow. The location is good. Walking distance to Malls, night market, Jesselton Point, waterfront, etc. At night, at is quite noisy because of the band playing at the cafe but they stop around 11 pm. If you are on a budget and you are out most of the day, this is the place for you.

The hotel location was very strategic. Its near to the place that you must go in kota kinabalu such as traditional market, night market etc.You just can walk to that place! The hotel room is quit nice because they have their own balcony ( only selected room). But, its have poor facilities such as
- you can only see a few channel on cable tv
- do not have coffee facilities
- a few lamp not functioning in my room
- I think they should check all of this facilities before customer check in
Also, i'm not recommended this hotel to people who like to sleep early (like me) because , every night in down stair (cafe nearby) always have live show. The show only end about 12.30 am. 3 night in a row, i have problem to sleep. definitely , will stay again in this hotel.
