Although it describes itself as extraordinary there is nothing ordinary about this hotel. Set in the outskirts of KL this hotel offers a pleasing break from city hotels; the lakeside and golf course setting makes for a relaxing location. Rooms are spacious, relaxing, and quiet. Though current renovation works, through to spring 2012, will mean some noise, I found that every effort had been made to minimise possible inconvenience to guests; I hate noise but did not feel that the renovations in any way impinged on my stay. In room information was average, but I understand is under review.
A good breakfast buffet with reasonable service though service could slip at peak times. The Chinese restaurant is a real dining pleasure, and the manager's knowledge and passion about the food was a pleasing experience. The lobby bar is in a spacious and pleasing setting, cocktails and other drinks well presented.
As a hotel with an in-house medical centre there is real scope to offer and provide high class health screening and consultations. I understanding work is ongoing to better integrate wellness and room packages, and that a re-launch in spring 2012 should see yet further improvements in Mines Wellness City, the new branding for the Palace of the Golden Horses and it's sister hotel Mines Wellness Resort.
Not surprisingly there is a very strong horse theme with horse shoes depicted in the flooring and countless horse statues around the resort. The owner has a very clear love of horses and this will be seen in 2012 by the addition of more horse themed items. There's an equestrian centre over the road but I'm not sure yet if this is accessible to hotel guests - it's certainly an idea for the future.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and would recommend this hotel to anyone seeking an extraordinary break. We plan to return in 2012.
