Grand Seasons Hotel KL
This hotel is a little out of the way, though very close to a monorail station. For convenience sake we ended up catching a lot of cabs in order to get to popular tourist destinations such as the Petronas Towers and the China Town Markets. The rooms (especially the ones with tower views) and swimming pool make this seem like a 5-star hotel, however the reception staff were often surly and unhelpful. Room Service / Housekeeping were a little slow to respond to requests (such as purchasing items off the menu or asking for an international adaptor). And overpricing for services such as making an outside call (100RM deposit required) or using the internet (8RM per half hour in the Business Centre or 25RM per day wifi access) doesn't help the overall image either. The Kasbah had decent service and tasty drinks though, even if the juxtaposition between decadent opium den style furnishings and soccer blaring on the big screen was a little jarring. There was a convenient money changer located in the hotel lobby shop, though marginally better exchange rates were easily found just a few streets away. Also, the Valet / Concierge's failure to provide us with a 5.30am wake-up call or order us a 6am cab to the airport, despite our pre-booking for both the night before, almost made us miss our return flights home. If you book using AsiaRooms be sure to take a printout of the booking with you too, as Reception Staff seem to have little idea of what was going on and/or tried to charge us additional fees for upgrading to rooms we had already booked as standard.
