Not bad, but don't expect the Ritz
Our stay at Maya was great overall, and I'd definitely return to it. However, there are a few things that people should be aware of before making a booking:
1. The rooms are getting a little old. The beds, sheets and mattresses are still excellent and everything in the room still functions. However, paint is peeling in various places and there was a bit of water damage in the bathroom.
2. The staff quite often don't really seem to understand English fully. On numerous occasions we had to explain things multiple times to different people to make sure we were understood. This applied to room service and reception especially. In the end it was quite charming and funny.
Bonuses of our stay were:
1. The buffet breakfast. It's quite good. There's a very broad choice of nice foods from different parts of the world. Definitely worth paying for.
2. The spa. We had a full body treatment for two and it was quite simply the best spa treatment I've ever had. The facilities are great.
3. The pool. As part of the spa facilities, the pool has a very relaxing atmosphere.
