Don't waste your time and money at this place
Don't get fool by the public areas, that's probably the only place in the hotel that are new and working.
Definitely overpriced and the service was just really normal. First day got a room on ground floor, next to public pool when clearly asked for a higher level room and called twice to reconfirm before check in. Ask for a change of room all they said was the rooms were all occupied when i hardly see anyone around.
As i walk pass by the hall way leading to my room, i can see most of the doors were old and chipped. Even the escalator had musty smell and in bad shape. The room space was just okay, provide only very basic utensils, nothing much. Bathroom equipment wasn't working at all, the AC temperature was uncontrollable and leaking at all hours. Bed were sandy, guess the cleaner just use the bedsheet to cover up everything and didn't bother to clean it up.
The only good about this place is the peace and quiet comparing to the resort next to it.

Our stay at Damai Beach
A comfortable hotel with good amenities, it's a typical well-kept Malay-style beach hotel. The hotel has 2 sets of pools of which the main one is just as a huge lagoon, right next to hotel’s private beach.
The hotel sits right on a white-sandy beach and is better located (and less priced) than its neighboring Damai Beach Hotel as its beach provides more privacy. You can take a refreshing walk in nearby jungle which you can access just right from the end of the beach.
Most of rooms have full or partial sea view or a superb view to nearby lush-green mountains.
Rooms are pretty well kept, with a spacious private balcony. The breakfast was great, with large choice of food for almost every taste.
Here is also some downside: there's very little to do in evenings, except for several depopulated and overpriced pubs-restaurants within the hotel's premises. There are no evening activities nearby the hotel and almost nowhere to go. The course of the sea may be pretty rough depending on a season and fluctuation of tides very strong. The beach may become fully over flooded during high tide.
This hotel is an ideal place for a full getaway from everything – just laze in the beach, idle by the pool or stroll in the jungle. The hotel is though within an easy reach from the center of Kuching by a regular shuttle minivan (~45 min.) that runs on settled schedule ca 5-6 times a day.

Quite basic considering the cost. Not very clean at all. I looked under the bed and there was a thick layer of dust. The place just looked tired. A lot of things did not work such as the wifi and the curtains in the room. The towels in the room were old and not very big.

A lot of money...might be worth it
Went for rainforest music festival, if it wasn't so close to the event, I would have felt like I paid too much. The rooms are shabby but the common spaces (pool, beach area, lobby areas) are beautiful. I paid around $300/night...for that amount of money I expect "Western quality" and it wasn't even near that. It would be worth around $150/night. Watch out for the jellyfish in the water, my girlfriend got stung and I came close the next day! Overall - good experience, but again, that is because it was so close to the concert. Definitely overpriced though (and I doubt that money is going to their staff).

Non Smoking room & safety at beach activity
We request non smoking room but found a cigarrette butt inside the drawer of side desk between the two beds. The aircondition was found not in good order, not cool enough. The beach is not safe because there was no floating buoy to segregate swimming area and the boats with outboard engines. It is unsafe condition and accident may happened where the boat might hit the swimmers especially kids. However, the swimming pool for kids is excellent.

New Year vacation
Lovely location. Very kind and attentive staff, very enjoyable stay. Although the hotel itself was a little tired, the food average and the room small. Also not very much to do outside the hotel, we enjoyed our break and considered everything to be good value for money.

Good but not great
We've stayed at Damai a few times over the last few years and some things have remained the same - lovely surroundings, marvellous food and good spa facilities. However not everything is so good. Our room left a lot to be desired - a blocked shower outlet, leaking air conditioner unit and lack of a cot for our baby son, despite specifying this when booking. Customer service when raising these issues was very offhand. So, we enjoyed our stay but may not decide to go again.
