great hotel with fantastic position
The Piccolo Hotel is a great Hotel, it is located right in the heart of the city, close to all the hot spots and all the major shopping centers. We are a family with two teenage boys and the hotel suited all our needs. The staff were all very friendly and helpful I would highly recommend this Hotel the position is perfect, the rooms are modern and very clean.

Easter 2012
We enjoyed a lovely 8 night stay either side of the Easter weekend 2012 - the weather was perfect and we were not disturbed by mossies, monkeys or sea lice. The location and grounds, with three pools and provate beach access are fabulous and in fact better than the website showed. We found the rooms generally very good and the villa (used for three nights by my sister's family who were with us at the sane time) was really lovely, if best suited to a couple.
Pros:
Beautiful quiet resort location
Friendly staff who will go out of their way to make you welcome
Child friendly - children's menu available in all restaurants, children's pool, kids club. There were lots of families with young children when we stayed and the kids seemed to be having a great time.
Great pools
Food often outstanding with great breakfast buffet
Cons:
Service is good but not consistent
Food was good but can be variable. The buffet changes every night but varied from outstanding to average. Worth checking what is on offer before you take a table.
The tour agents will only sell their preferred tours so you have to DIY if you want something different.
There may be "better" hotels in Langkawi but for a family holiday this is hard to beat.

A little disappointed
We stayed in March 2012 for 4 nights. The initial room we were given was not cleaned properly, there were still hairs in the bath tub and lolly wrappers on the floor. The next room we were given was clean. The rooms are quite dated, with broken furniture/chips on furniture. This we found quite disappointing as we have a 10 month old so we knew that we would be spending a reasonable amount of time in the room.
The Pools on the other hand were really quite nice and the food was also of a high standard. We really enjoyed the breakfasts which had a huge variety of options.
For the amount of money we paid for this resort we expected at least a clean room.

Couldn't ask for more...
Very clean, luxurious setting and excellent customer service. Received free upgrade upon arrival. Every resort staff I interested was a pleasure to talk to. Extremely friendly, they go out of your way to offer help, and most importantly they seemed genuine. The pool man seemed a little grumpy, but that seems to be the case in every hotel - must have something to do with chemicals. The room was top quality, large flat screen tv, well equipped mini bar, quality furniture with wooden floor. The bed and bedding were the most impressive. Latex type mattress with thick, silky sheets made us want to stay in bed all day. Restaurant food was also top quality. Would have preferred to try full buffet dinner but they only offered buffet entree and desert, with a la cart mains, which I thought was a bit strange and less value for money. Overall prob the best hotel I stayed at so far. Well done and thank you, Westin. We will be back for sure.

DR COMMENT
The cost seemed high based on comparisons with other guests and similar ccommodation elsewhere. This may have been due to school holdays and easter breaks. The refreshments/internet use at the airport lounge werecharged for. This can be deduced in retrospect from the website but the quicker implication is that this is not so.

Xmas stay 2010
Very good hotel. Lots of activities for children including Kid's club, pools, beach. For adults has sailing, windsurfing, tennis. Has its own private beach. Close to a jetty where you can take many boating tours to nearby islands and go snorkelling etc.

The hotel was very good for a...
The hotel was very good for a couple who has a honey moon or would like to update it again. The location was very close to most of Langkawi attractions. The villa with a private pool was unbelievable and I recommend it strognly.
