Nice but overpriced
The Lanai is a pleasant hotel with clean rooms, friendly service, a nice pool and direct access to the beach. The room we stayed in was however rather small and showed some wear esp. in the bathroom - but that was acceptable.
The breakfast buffet did leave however much to be desired - even for a 3-star. The selection was very small (actually the smallest of all the 3-star hotels we stayed in in Malaysia). Coffee was instant, and the food available prepared without love or attention to detail. I did not find any food during the stay that should not be improved upon. Cold cuts/cheese were only available for one day, the gone thereafter. The cold cuts offered were showing signs of drying up at the edges (at 8.30 am - one hour after breakfast started!), noodle salad was overly vinegary, pastry dry, 2 types of jam, 2 types of fruits on rotation and about 3-4 warm dishes. The warm dishes were pretty bad - I would expect better even for a 2-star hotel.
All in all for the money we spend for the room, I expected a bit more. Will not consider The Lanai again as there are much better choices in Langkawi (we have been there 12 times). For 150 RM per night and room this would have been fine. For 225 it wasn't.
