First of all the hotel is 'alcohol...
First of all the hotel is 'alcohol free', which I was not informed about when making my booking. If I had known this I would never have stayed at this hotel. It catered exclusively for Malaysian guests only. There were only 3 wooden, and very heavy, sunbeds for the whole complex that I saw. There were also no portable sunshades available for guests to use. The beach/shoreline area was a total disgrace with rubbish (plastic bags) everywhere (have photo to prove it). The rooms are 'tired' and in need of a make over. The complex itself was clean and tidy. The nearest local restaurants/bars were a 5 to 10 minute taxi ride away.

The resort is far from town, less friendly service. Most guests are malays, breakfast less variety.

The Good: Location (own beach), many activities...
The Good: Location (own beach), many activities to choose from, beautiful cabins for the price. The Average: the staff are not quite up to scratch (with one notable exception). The Bad: the food - it's pretty damned ordinary - and as the resort is "isolated" from the other built-up areas you'll need transport to get something better.
I have rated this resort good for budget travellers as if you book on the internet in advance, some great prices can be found.
And thanks to the one staff memeber from the Activities section who was superb - 100% for service. If only all the other staff were like him!
The odour of sewerage spoilt sitting on...
The odour of sewerage spoilt sitting on our verandah relaxing. The evening meals, whilst tasty were always served cold (even all the Asian dishes which are usually served hot). The fridge was dirty and the bathroom badly needs upgrading. The pillows the first night were shocking and resulted in a sleepless night and cricked necks. Rooms generally need updating.The staff are laid back and whilst smiley seem aimless and lacking in direction/guidence & motivation. The staff were generally very young and we saw no mature staff at all. The breakfast was below average and the sparrows were always amongst the food and on the utensils which caused us to doubt the hygeine. Would avoid staying here if possible.
We stayed at the resort in January...
We stayed at the resort in January 2006 and were absolutely thrilled with what we found. I had booked on the internet and didn't know what to expect. We were met at the jetty and when we arrived at reception a few minutes later were greeted by staff with a welcoming drink. The location is superb and when we were there, there were more staff than guests. We hired motorbikes so we could wander round the island. We would not hesitate to go there again and would certainly recommend it to anyone visiting Pulau Pangkor (which is a beautiful island). Our stay was the highlight of a 3 week trip to Malaysia.

The pool of the hotel was excellent and the service also. The rooms of the Melati Chalet should be renovated (at least the one we stayed). Breakfast was mediocre and not so perfect as in Thailand. The island is nice and I´d recommend the rent of the motorbike.
