Pleasant stay, nice hotel, good staff
We stayed here for 8 nights in December 2010. The hotel was pleasant, well-kept and maintained, and very clean. The pool area was lovely and again was very clean. The only issue was that there were way too few beds for the number of guests - only 10 beds and yet the hotel was full, there must have easily been 50+ guests there. People were dragging plastic chairs from the restaurant and from their balconies to sit by the pool on, which should not have happened especially as on another website and in the hotel's own guest book, the lack of beds was commented on.
The food on the hotel's restaurant, the Sandy Spoon, was excellent and very reasonable. There is also a great little seafood restaurant across the road (think it's called Guan Guan Seafood) where the food is superb and the owner is very friendly. It is always busy yet he kept a table for us.
The other thing I would say is that the beach here needs to be cleaned. There were literally piles of rubbish lying on it when we stayed here, including broken glass which we picked off the beach, with children running around barefoot - the consequences don't bear thinking about. So the hoteliers and boat-trip businesses in this area should all contribute to having the beach cleaned regularly, although it's the responsibilty of the visitors, but people will be put off coming here if they do not get a handle on this problem.
All in all though this hotel is very nice if sometimes noisy at the time of our stay due to the number of families but I believe it was Malaysian school holidays. The staff are very helpful and friendly.
Try to avoid using the hotel's laundry service though, for a small amount of washing we were charged 45RM which is about 9GBP, a lot of money.
