For a hotel of this standard I was shocked to have sheets with holes and a blanket/bedspread with a burn mark, they also seemed to limit such neccessities as toilet paper during my 5 day stay I had to ask 2 times for toilet paper.
We had a great time at the Bayview...the buffet breakfast was a excellent start to the day and the staff were a bunch of great guys and gals. The foyer staff handled our requests quickly and efficiently. The late check-out was was much appreciated. And we did get our double bed! See you next time Bayview.
Overall the hotel was satisfactory in all areas. Th only comment I would make is that they could change some of the dishes at breakfast as it does get a bit tedious.
My trip involved two stays at the Bayview. On the first occassion I had a room overlooking the Straights - with the Eastern and Oriental Hotel just underneath the window. It is a great view to start the day.
Alas on my return a couple of days later, I was accommodated on the other side of the hotel, with the window just feet from the aircon duct which made much noise throughout the night.
I would therefore suggest you ask for a room with a 'seaview'.
Both bedrooms was clean and spacious, as was the bathroom. There is plenty of wardrobe space.
The TV as the usual channels in these parts.
Overall a good value older style city hotel now looking a little tired. We were given a good sized room on the 16th floor with average facilities, although our room was not cleaned to an acceptable standard, and a lot of small ant-like insects were spotted. The lack of hand towels in the bathroom was annoying.
The room was a good size but it was in the old wing of the hotel and therefore had not been renovated. While the hotel's new wing may be 4 star, the old wing is no more than a 3 star at best. The carpet was old and stained. There was no bedspread. And the shower was just not clean. There was visible black mold around the soap dish in the shower and the grout as well. The toilet was leaking
on to the floor and had to be repaired before we would take the room. We were offered another room in the old wing but it was in the smoking section which was not acceptable to us. We had visited the hotel on a previous trip to Georgetown and were impressed with the lobby and the staff. I think that AsiaRooms should advise their customers that if they book through AsiaRooms they will be staying in the old wing and not the new wing of the hotel.
We had booked a superior room at very good rates and we were pleasantly surprised at just how good this hotel was. Excellent value. Excellent staff and meals. Highly recommended. Only downside was the fairly poor choice of TV channels for English speaking guests.
We (myself, wife and 2 teenage kids) stayed in a Deluxe room, which was absolutely fine, and very good value for a hotel of this quality. Large, light and comfortable rooms. Clean with very good service. Small, but acceptable pool. Very good location - very central - next to Penang's nightlife. Very good breakfast for the local favourites.
Overall: would recommend it wholeheartedly.
