Heaven on earth experience at Shangri-La's RSR
We had a remarkable and unforgettable happy experience at Shangri-La' RSR & Spa at Penang. My family includes my wife two daughters and my son. My son-in-law and my very first grandson of 14 months were also there.
Every one of us had a great time and enjoyed every second. The hospitality , the affection and the care the staff has shown is second to none. We have never felt this anywhere on the globe.
It is a great hotel great food and above all fantastic experience. This hospitality and welcome extends beyond the hotel. The people generally in the town and elsewhere are wonderful helpful and always smiling.

Relaxing
Penang's Batu Ferringgi is a place for those who want to be by the beach but do not want to be in the water.
Rasa Sayang has such an enormous space that it gives you the privacy and space you need to unwind and day dream.
October is probably the lowest season. I think only 1/5 occupancy. Fantastic for those who want some quietness and a place to chill out.
We were upgarded to a deluxe family room which was almost 800 sq ft. 1 king bed and 2 super single. Just right for a family of four.
You will note that the room is a little old although they renovated it 5 yrs ago. No wallpeels or rust or stuff falling apart. But it just feels old. No spanking new like the Hard Rock.
It's a place for Nature Lovers if you like majestic trees, fauna and the garden atmosphere

exclusive rasa wing service breakfast is serene afternoon tea a delightful experience and the pre dinner canapes a lovely touch.
Excellence
The hotel was excellent. The service exceeded expectations and was consistent. The room was excellent as was the cleanliness. From the time we were picked up from the airport by the hotel (extra cost) to the time we returned we had nothing to complain about. I point; if you use the spar book in straight away as it was heavily booked but worth the wait!! Thoroughly recommended.

We were very fortunate to have been selected for an upgrade to the Rasa Wing. I have heard feedback from others who stayed at the hotel, but were not overlyimpressed with the Rasa Sayang rooms, but they had all stayed in the Garden Wing. So I guess there must be a clear difference in the standard of rooms between the two wings. Service was excellent, and we loved the location and the hotel gardens. A great place for a family holiday.

The hotel was fantastic, especially the breakfast was the best choice we ever had.
The food in the restaurant was also very good but quite expensive compared to the outside restaurants on the street. Service very good and friendly.
Nice pool, the sea was too rough for swimming.
Good location with evening market on the street and good restaurants.
We also liked the music in the rasa wing bar.
To put this review in context ,...
To put this review in context , we paid SGD 323 for a night's stay - so expectations were very high as thats alot of money for a hotel room in Asia. My expectations were of a 5 star level however we stayed in the older wing and I was sorely disappeared. I found :
1) There were small black stains on our headboard and it was fuzzy and worn out.
2) When lying in the bathtub you got the view of the underside of the sink which showed where the wall had been hacked away to access the plumbing , and not replaced , so we were looking at gravelly concrete...
3) The clock on our bedstand..was not working!!!! For 300 dollars a night , come on people !!!
4) Service was generally lacklustre and felt like forced hospitality.
5) I called the spa to make an appointment with in the next 2 hours - to which the receptionist promised to call back , 45 mins later no call !!!!
Now these may seem like small things , but for the amount paid i expect a hotel bordering on perfection especially since the price surpasses hotel rates in Singapore!! Overall , very disappointed and suggest people save their money and stay somewhere cheaper.
