Very nice hotel, conveniently located. The possibility of using the facilities of the other Shangri-la hotels at the beach was very much appreciated.

We loved The Traders Hotel. It has great extras, the Club Rooms/lounge (which include internet, drinks and wine and sandwiches all day until 8:00 p.m., GREAT FOOD, great buffet breakfast and will answer any and all quesions. The concierge will locate any and all tours, services or sources you may need outside the hotel. Definitely a 5 star hotel (it is managed by Shangri-La hotels and there is no better.) It has a great location especially if you want to be in Georgetown. I inadvertently left my passsport in the safe at the previous hotel and was very worried. The hotel and concierge contacted the hotel, waited for confirmation that they had located the passport, and then immediately made arrangements to have it shipped via DSL to the traders via overnight service, WITH NO CHARGE. It was just the best!

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Traders Hotel, Penang. The location was great and central to the historic Penang City area, shopping and food places. Two areas where it could be better is to provide much firmer pillows, and quieter aircond fans.

The hotel felt old and run down....
The hotel felt old and run down. The halls were dark and depressing and the room felt rather average. I expected a better quality experience for the price and from a Traders Hotel, certainly when compared to the Traders Hotel in KL which is of far better quality.
I like it because it is clean...
I like it because it is clean and neat. Also has an impressive gym, for a hotel. Although it is not near to the beach, it is close to a shopping mall, where one can grab quick bites and get some groceries.

Shangri-La in Georgetown is not very new/...
Shangri-La in Georgetown is not very new/ renovated, but for not so unimaginable rate(s) it could be recommended as perfect place to stay on Penang island - right in the middle of the city, in the same building with: Komtar tower, shopping mall & supermarket.
Opposite side of Magazine-Road is a beat frightening but authentic as almost all G'town consists of same 2-storeys old chinese shop-houses.
Hotel is quite comfortable & pleasant overall. Restaurant on the ground floor - very lovely, serves the best soup (Malay with duck) I ever ate!
Convenient option - free-of-charge shuttle to Sh-La's Resort in Ferringhi!

Usual Shangri La feel in the lobby although not attentive enough service in the lobby lounge in the afternoon. Good internet service in the room. Bed is excellent. Too bad Shang Palace was closed for renovation during the period. Food in cafe is moderately okay but service is quite good. Decoration and style is good too. Check out service is fast and concierge is smart.

Stay on this hotel 4 years ago.The room & amenities are clean.We spent 4 nights.and on the 3rd night , they upgraded ours to Deluxe room.Very nice service & staffs are polite.But the breakfast is not that wonderful.Better to get other eateries near the hotel.The location is great..centrally on the city, adjacent to the famous building landmark Komtar and other shopping complex. Nearby have few travel agents that we use one of them to book our next trip to Hatyai - Thailand & Kuala Lumpur by bus.Also near to this local bus terminal.We tried to travel around city by the bus.Its safe & quite clean.Absolutely will stay again on this hotel for next visit.
