Great value for money hotel. The foyer area has been completely renovated and looks fantastic, so it would be a lovely place to hold a function. The room was fairly clean, but was spacious. My only major issue was that we paid for a room Sea View Suite with a kitchenette, however the room did not come with any cutlery or cooking facilities and we had to pay extra to hire a microwave, toaster, rice cooker and utensils for the duration of our stay. We had a few minor problems when we checked in as we had requested a room on a high floor because we were staying for a number of weeks. When we were given our room, it was only on the second floor and it took two days to have us moved. They initially said they would move us to the 5th floor, but that changed to the 4th floor and then we only ended up moving up to floor 3, but the view was still nice. Our room had a couple of small issues - the air conditioner leaked (actually, make that POURED water) due to its constant use, and the clothes line in the bathroom broke on its first use, but these problems were promptly fixed by maintenance staff. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the Shores Restaurant, downstairs, was very accommodating to my specific dietary needs and even prepared a special breakfast each morning as I was unable to eat the buffet breakfast. The free use of non-motorised watercraft and in-house movies/Astro pay-TV were also great bonuses.
Overall, I found this hotel ideal for both our budget and requirements and would definitely recommend to anyone travelling to Penang. It is also an ideal hotel for families as it caters for children with its Kiddies Club and pool area, and it is also accessible for seniors as it provides lift access to its 6-storeys and ramp access to the pool area. It’s obviously not a 5-Star hotel, but as a young couple, we wanted somewhere central and affordable from which to base our sight-seeing and this hotel was perfect. We were very impressed with its location - it is very handy to Georgetown and Gurney Plaza (which is one of the best shopping centres I've ever been to) and it is close enough to Batu Ferrengi (and its night markets) without being near all of the hustle and bustle of the main tourist area. I would certainly stay at Tanjung Bungah Beach Hotel again.
