Great hotel with excellent facilities, lovely pool and loads of choice at buffet breakfast. Very clean throughout. Slightly out of town up a hill but easy enough to walk if fit, but otherwise a very short taxi ride.

The hotel was a little bit tired...
The hotel was a little bit tired in some respects it needs a good gurney on the outside. However value for money was very good. I wouldnt go to Sandekan again as there is very little to do there and it is too far away from islands, and caves, hot springs to just drive there for a day trip. The orangutans were the attraction for us but only three were seen that day. I would probably go to Kota Kinabalu if I went to Borneo again - but after walking through Sandekan I definately am glad we stayed at the Sabah Hotel - we also enjoyed the Agnes Keith house and tearoom - beautiful and worth the visit.

Hotel was fine, Bathroom was tired however it was functional. Bedroom was a reasonable size, clean with the amenities you would expect. It has a variety of restaurants and breakfast room opens early at 6.30 (Good if you need an early start). Location was about a 15Min walk from the Town centre.

The hotel is quite far from town,...
The hotel is quite far from town, not so bad going down but a bit tough coming back, espcially with the heat and humidity. The rooms were also a bit damp. They are doing renovations, and the "nature walk" was closed. The staff are pleasant and they have tour organisers and shops for souveniers on site, they even did batik demonstrations which was really nice. Pool area was good, and the water cool and refreshing.

The hotel was OK, a little run down and in need of a make over. But it was perfectly fine for a brief stay. Food was good in the restaurant. Pool area was nice and the gym was a bonus.

Room was large and facing car park,...
Room was large and facing car park, asked about pool view but told this would cost extra. Room was tired with obvious large coffee stain (or similar)at the foot of the bed. Pool area was nice with a good sized pool but most of the furniture was tatty or old. Service was quiet and understated. The hotel is about a five minute walk to the town and the taxis all charge varying prices back and forth but expect to pay about 6 MRT. A 40 minute taxi drive to Sepilok is reasonable but negotiate if the taxi waits or returns before you leave as they will try to charge you more. Doing it this way is still more reasonable than the hotel tour. Flights to KK are about £7 so worth staying locally and relaxing. Local town is very basic but explore the bars and cares for bargain food and beer - especially at the navy end
