The roof top bar/cafe is nice but...
The roof top bar/cafe is nice but menu is Western with no Malaysian dishes. Wifi only works in lobby. The room is decent size, however the air conditioning was anemic, and as we had a forward facing room, the street noise was at time intolerable due to dueling mopeds in the street. The bathroom was equipped with a very poor quality bathtub that felt that it was about to fall apart. The shower/bathtub was not equipped with a curtain completely flooding the floor as the bathroom floor drain was very slow. Installing a shower curtain would provide a simple remedy. Check in staff was barely competent, and was inclined to pretend the credit card machine was out of order--a common characteristic of hotels in Southeast Asia where in many cases, the staff is either ignorant of the proper use of a credit card machine or has been instructed to use deception and pretend that the system is down, thereby forcing the patron/guest to use cash. A few petty issues that one hopes would not represent a pattern. Issuing only one breakfast coupon when two individuals are booked in a room. Really quite petty. The common areas are attractively furnished in bold Chinese style furniture. The roof top bar/restaurant staff was generally apathetic, rather inclined to ignore the patron and spend time gabbing amongst themselves. This reviewer found them to be in general rather immature. The price as found online is good value, however customer service could be greatly improved, and some instruction in proper conduct towards the guest (guest is more important than gabbing with your coworkers) would help. This reviewer was greatly turned off by the check in staff pretending that the credit card machine was down, and then issuing only one breakfast voucher, when the room as booked was clearly for two individuals. The cleaning staff and laundry staff was very nice. Feel that management should retrain staff. When does a paying guest play second fiddle to a coworker in regards to attention.

Thankyou Mr Toney for your review, Despite it being slightly gut wrenching to know the truth from our guest, for most of the weakness that you have pointed out we have no excuses but a sincere apology. However I do hope you can hear me out regarding the credit card system. We definately have no intention of collecting cash from you when providing credit card payment mode is a willing service on our end. Neither do we advocate pretending that the machines don't work if it is in full function. It is common for tourist to face card decline/credit block issues because of the high security block set by banks overseas due to card fraudulent cases in Asia. A high percentage of transaction made in our establishment is also made via credit card daily. Therefore I feel that your statement could have unfairly misjudged us. Your room booking was also for a Classic Single room, where it clearly states only 1 breakfast & welcome drink will be provided. We are now considering changing the room name to Standard Single to avoid future misunderstandings. A well versed & well travel person like your good self would have noticed the average person in Borneo including Sandakan does not speak English as a first language,Most locals would probably not even complete their high school education,Perhaps the language barrier have led to some mis-communication whilst your travels. I fully understand your frustration as paying patron & thankyou for your patience. With that said thankyou for your invaluable feedback, we will be working on the listed details starting from the shower curtains.
