Wont Go Back
I wont be going back, I was bored after an hour, the island is very small and no opportunity for long beach walks and jungle treking my holiday objectives. The food I ddint enjoy starter had far too much batter and the fish main dish had a strange taste but maybe it was the Tamerind paste. Food and drink expensive and they also charged automatically a 30% mark aup on the boat service.
I only stayed 1 night and went to Kapas island the island opposite Gem Island and even though I could only get a bed in a dormitory I had a great time met so many friendly people and did my jungle and beach walking along long sandy beaches, different options for eating and drinking which was cheap.
If you only wanted to stay withing a 100 yards of the chalet and liked to listen to waves while sitting on your balcony and reading a book then this is okay

Gem Island resort is truly a lovely...
Gem Island resort is truly a lovely spot. Emerald/azure waters, a turtle hatchery, quaint hidden beaches, great food, even beer & other alcohol in this "dry" part of Malaysia! Rooms are very comfortable, clean, panoramic, they have aircon and are homey. I would recommend this resort to anyone, but it is not for budget travellers :), more for mid- to high-end. Great for families too.
