Nestled on the side of Mt Ruapehu of State Highway 48, Chateau Tongariro places you in the middle of the Dual World Heritage Tongariro National Park, central North Island.

Within 10 minutes drive from Whakapapa Ski Area and within easy reach of Department of Conservation managed day walks, local trout fishing, fantastic alpine golf courses and many other exciting activities.

The Chateau Tongariro Hotel has 115 rooms, divided into two main wings - the original Ruapehu wing and the six year old Tongariro wing that protrubes to the left of the building. Each room within the Ruapehu Wing is sized & shaped differently. Each room within the hotel has its own unique view of the surrounding countryside, Mt Ruapehu, Mt Tongariro or Mt Ngauruhoe.

Hotel facilities within & outside of the Chateau Tongariro include a well groomed 9 hole golf course directly in front of the hotel - golf clubs are available for hire, two tennis courts, an indoor heated plunge pool (suitable for up to 25 persons), sauna (male & female), small gymnasium & cinema playinng recent releases.

The Chateau Tongariro Hotel's food and beverage facilities are unrivalled within the Ruapehu district with choices for all budgets & tastes.

The Ruapehu Room within the Chateau Tongariro is the hotel's signature restaurant and provides daily buffet breakfast and a la' carte dining in the evenings. The Pihanga Cafe, also within the hotel provides casual dining whilst 'Tussock' is located a short walk down from the hotel & provides a typical kiwi pub atmosphere with great pizzas & pub grub.

The Chateau Tongariro Hotel contains a house bar where you will be served at your table whilst listening to the hotel's fabulous nightly pianist. Sit under the chandeliers and absorb the ambiance that radiates from the 1929 constructed hotel.
