The hotel is quite nice. The typhoon...
The hotel is quite nice. The typhoon hit Boracay during our stay. The Hotel withstood the storm well, but there was flooding (even before the typhoon) on the road leading to the beach.
This meant we had no choice but to wade thru water to get to the hotel. The hotel is right across the road from, and slightly down hill from, the island sewrage treatment works. The gave us serious concerns as to contamination from wading thru this water.
We were also disapointed that the Buffet breakfast was only on for half the mornings we stayed, due to lack of guests.
The staff were nice and quite helpful, but often seemed a little under-informed about the island. For example, when we asked about snorkelling, they recomended an expensive island hopping boat trip (about 1000 peso p/p.)
Instead we discover that we could take a trike for 100 pesos to nearby Tambisan beach and just snorkel off the beach along side the paying customers from the boats.
On the whole, Boracay Tropics seemed nicer than some of the more expensive hotels on White Beach where our friends were staying but Boracay has become seriously over-developed. 15,000 residents and 300,000 visitors per year is too many for such a small island! Good if you like crowds and shopping.
