Pros and Cons
The staff here is super friendly. always ready to help, say hi, try to get the kids to smile. Very ready to give sheets or whatever at request.
We had a standard aircon room; about 40 bucks a night.
The room had quite a bit of mosquitos, despite being sealed/windows closed. i killed 11 the first day and an average of 5 every other day.
The bathroom was too small and stunk a bit. The rooms only get cleaned every other day.
The location was ok. It's about a 30 second walk to the beach.... you come out of an ally right at boat station 3... the sand here is not that great (nor are you allowed to swim RIGHT where the boats are) so you to have to walk... but not far at all. IT is a decent bit of a walk (with kids) to the DMall area.
The room was very small.
Overall, its hard to give this a firm review- we didn't pay a lot nor did we get alot. It was fine. Not really a place i'd want to hang out in at all (which we did have to a little for afternoon naps) i think you could get cooler places that would be more kid friendly (with little gardens to run around in, etc.) for the same cost or cheaper. But.. for what we paid and what the pics showed on the internet... i think we knew what we were getting into.
THe staff was really really great. Super friendly. and that was very redeeming.

A Hotel Price for a Hostel Experience
From the reviews, photos website etc. Villa Romero looked very promising, but turned out to be a major disappointment.
Pros:
-the staff is wonderful! Helpful but laid back, and have a sense of humor. Very informative, and will tell you the best deals for tourist deals (ATV, scuba etc.).
-The room and the beds were large.
-Taxis are conveniently outside the hotel in the early am for ferry drop-off.
-Romero's patrons came from all walks of life- Filipino families, backpackers, honeymooners etc. Neighboring rooms were never too loud.
Cons:
-the bathroom. The shower either took 20 minutes or never got warm, and the water pressure was the worst I've ever had. Barely a trickle. The toilet was always breaking and somebody would have to come and fix it. You couldn't flush paper, you had to throw it in the trash. This last bit I'm used to from my experiences in China, but every other bathroom I used in Boracay could flush paper, so this ticked me off a bit. Worst of all, the bathroom always stunk of urine. I've stayed in youth hostels that have better plumbing.
-The hotel is at Station 3, which we didn't realize was so far away. It was a 25 minute walk to the hub of White Beach. This we didn't mind so much; it was a nice walk and worked off some of the ice cream. It did get annoying walking home late at night though.
-When we stayed there, a new store was being built across the street (and by street I mean 8 foot alley), so every morning at 7:30 we would be woken up construction workers with their drills and hammers. Not a big deal for early risers, but sucks for those who want to sleep in. It seems like the construction was almost finished though.
Conclusion:
Villa Romero would have been a positive experience if it wasn't for that awful bathroom. What makes me really disappointed is that this hotel is mid-range price-wise in Boracay. We probably could have got a cheaper hotel with a better location and better bathroom:(

Villa Romero is a lovely, affordable hotel (has more of a guesthouse type feel) run by friendly and helpful staff who keep the place SPOTLESSLY clean!
I was satisfied with my experience overall, but being close to the main drag, I found it to be rather noisy day & night.
Also, the hotel was prone to blackouts for an hour or so at a time.
The good things about the hotel was the free wifi which was available in my room, the lovely woman who ran it, and its proximity to the beach.
However, for 500 pesos less a night I found better, quieter accommodation just round the corner (minus the wifi).
If you want to book somewhere online to guarantee you'll have a place to stay when you arrive in Boracay, VR would be a good place to stay while you scout around for alternatives.
