I am always reluctant to write reviews...
I am always reluctant to write reviews on resorts and hotels given that I have managed resorts and hotels for the last 17 years all within SE Asia and only tend to self-review resorts and hotels on a 'professional level'. However, I feel it prudent to start writing given that I am a 'professional' hotelier. On the positive side, the staff were terrific, very helpful, cooperative and polite. The scenery and the facilities poolside were also excellent. The resort is very well maintained and looks fabulous on the outside; however, things are lacking within Unfortunately, for me...It was the accommodation that was the real let-down. The rooms are very, very small despite going for the larger of the rooms and as such I felt it lacked value for money. Despite advertising a well-stocked minibar, the ref was off and completely empty. Given that the resort is remotely located, it's not as if you can stroll out to a convenience store. The bathroom frankly was a nightmare. The bathroom door could not be fully opened due to a built-in angular wardrobe right behind the door. (Yes, the wardrobe is in the bathroom!). This meant having to squeeze into the bathroom which meant colliding with a glass shelf just above the bathroom sink everytime you entered tha bathroom. I ended up with a few scratches on the arm due to the corner of the glass when I entered the bathroom for the first time. I ended up removing the glass shelf and placing it on one of the wardrobe shelves for personal safety. I dread to think what damage this could do to a child's eye or head! The sink is so low, almost kiddie level and I had to squat to be able to shave using the mirror. I knew prior to booking that the resort was pretty remote and that was one of the attractions. However, I was not prepared for the fact that it is almost impossible to get a taxi to take you to the resort after dark. When the taxi drivers do agree, be prepared for outrageous prices and no meters. That said, the resort staff are able to call you a taxi to take you into the city with just a P50.00 additional charge on top of the meter price...so that was ok. On the whole, the facilties and staff are there...but the rooms were severly lacking in comfort and value for money and although it will never be my first choice again...I would still recommend the Alta Cebu Resort.

Beautiful setting, quiet, surrounded by trees with wonderful staff and establishment. The only drawback is the distance from cebu city and shady taxi drivers with their eye on foreigners, haha. Excellent!

In my career as a travel company...
In my career as a travel company executive, I've stayed at many traditional style resorts.. My fiance and I were looking for something a little less predictable for our honeymoon. After a lot of looking, we found ALTA. The natural setting and native style architectural theme is well planned. From past experience it is rare to find this level of service. The staff are genuinely friendly and helpful, always greeting us by name with big smiles. The decor of each guestroom is unique. Thought not overly large, our room was perfect for our needs. We both enjoy trying new dishes, so we were happy to know they have a culinary school trained cook who can suggest ideas for meals that might not be on the menu. The gardens are marvelous! I heard they have been rated by local industry professionals as having the best gardens in Cebu. Although it is actually closer to Cebu City than the other resorts and only about 6 miles from the airport, it is a bit of a relaxing hideaway, which is what we wanted. The best boutique resorts are usually found off the beaten path, making them all the more trendy. On clear, moonlit night be sure to stroll down and enjoy the splendid views of the city lights from ALTA's boat dock. While I was at ALTA, I met one of the director of Peace Corps Philippines. He told me he had taken his volunteers to many resorts and hotels in the Philippines for training seminars, but that ALTA was by far the best place they had ever used. I almost did not consider ALTA because their price is quite a bit less than other similar resorts. Really glad we did! For the friendly smiles, the value and ambiance, this resort can't be beat. The jungle in paradise setting made for an experience which was all that we had hoped for-exotic surroundings, warm and friendly people; it was as they say a very romantic place. Looking through their guest book and talking to other guests, I see people are happy with the place. I'm sure that these guys get a lot of repeat guests.

Although this resort is pretty much out...
Although this resort is pretty much out of the way, it is a surprise to find such a lovely place in a rather poor neighborhood. I had a car for myself, without that transport might be a bit complicated. But the resort self is lovely made and had a nice pool, the restaurant choice is not too large, but I was there off-season, and the service was extraordinary in every aspect
