I am always reluctant to write reviews...
I am always reluctant to write reviews on resorts and hotels given that I have managed resorts and hotels for the last 17 years all within SE Asia and only tend to self-review resorts and hotels on a 'professional level'. However, I feel it prudent to start writing given that I am a 'professional' hotelier.
On the positive side, the staff were terrific, very helpful, cooperative and polite. The scenery and the facilities poolside were also excellent.
The resort is very well maintained and looks fabulous on the outside; however, things are lacking within
Unfortunately, for me...It was the accommodation that was the real let-down. The rooms are very, very small despite going for the larger of the rooms and as such I felt it lacked value for money.
Despite advertising a well-stocked minibar, the ref was off and completely empty. Given that the resort is remotely located, it's not as if you can stroll out to a convenience store.
The bathroom frankly was a nightmare. The bathroom door could not be fully opened due to a built-in angular wardrobe right behind the door. (Yes, the wardrobe is in the bathroom!). This meant having to squeeze into the bathroom which meant colliding with a glass shelf just above the bathroom sink everytime you entered tha bathroom. I ended up with a few scratches on the arm due to the corner of the glass when I entered the bathroom for the first time. I ended up removing the glass shelf and placing it on one of the wardrobe shelves for personal safety. I dread to think what damage this could do to a child's eye or head!
The sink is so low, almost kiddie level and I had to squat to be able to shave using the mirror.
I knew prior to booking that the resort was pretty remote and that was one of the attractions. However, I was not prepared for the fact that it is almost impossible to get a taxi to take you to the resort after dark. When the taxi drivers do agree, be prepared for outrageous prices and no meters.
That said, the resort staff are able to call you a taxi to take you into the city with just a P50.00 additional charge on top of the meter price...so that was ok.
On the whole, the facilties and staff are there...but the rooms were severly lacking in comfort and value for money and although it will never be my first choice again...I would still recommend the Alta Cebu Resort.
