Our stay at the hotel was superb, my kids was very impress especially at the lobby area. Room was excellent and clean to my standard and the front desk crew were very nice. Hotel location was near the parks and a short walk to the baywalk area or like what we did we took a CALESA ride to the baywalk. Complementary breakfast buffet was great and lots of selections. Over all it was an excellent stay over in manila, with an excellent hotel to stay in. Manila Hotel is highly recommended.
Manila Hotel deserves it's 5 star rating...
Manila Hotel deserves it's 5 star rating - especially with the service. Reception desk staff however could be a little more customer friendly. Some of the reception desk staff I have encountered were a slightly aloof, or shall I saw "snobbish". Otherwise, we were very happy with the room and the oceanside view.

I have stayed every year at the Manila hotel since 97. I like it so much I don't bother to try any other hotel now. I rate it better that Mandarin and Shangri-la not necessarily in comfort of rooms but in the friendliness, efficiency and uniqueness it provides. It sits away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The staff treat you more like you are one of the family rather than just a person with a room number. The pool and bay club staff again are great. It is the only hotel in Manila where I can find male masseur and Janni is great for that. Long may it continue
We asked for a non-smoking room and...
We asked for a non-smoking room and received a smoking room. The smoking smell clung to the walls. Architectually, the Manila Hotel, is absolutely beautiful. It was a pleasure being around the historical hotel. Good breakfast buffet and nice servers. If I could make one request before we stayed in the room (and confirm that our room was for non-smokers only), it would be to scrub everything down with bleach. It was clean on the important areas; beds, bathroom, sofa. Areas like the closest interiors cabinets and even the floors, needed an extra polish. You've been asking for my opinion. So from a hypochondriac-neat-freak, this is my response. If the question is, would I do it again? My answer would be yes.
