One night in Manila :-)

This was my fourth trip to Manila this year, but my first stay at the City Gardens Suites in Ermita. I came away impressed with the entire hotel package, from the easy check-in, to the condition of the room to the breakfast buffet the next morning. The bonus side for me is that it's close to Rizal Park (10 minute walk up Mabini) for my morning walk and a 300 peso cab ride to the NAIA Airport later in the day. :-)

Customer service: front desk pro-actively proposed the morning call & advised about traffic to the airport + breakfast schedule for early morning. After re-confirming we wanted a non-smoking room we got room 220, without window. We requested to change to a room with window, then were upgraded to room 806. The room was nice & clean, except the aircond box from the room above leaking on our aircond outside, but we fixed the noise problem by placing an empty glass bellow the leak. That can happen. Experience overall satisfactory.
Breakfast so-so but fine: good juice, instant coffee, bacon/eggs/rice/soup/toast, but no fried vegies.
Good location on Mabini street with many convenience stores, restaurants, bars.
It's a good place to stay for one night between 2 flights.

Better than other options around

The room was clean, the internet was Ok and breakfast buffet also OK (have seen better selection of food elsewhere but also seen much worse). It is newer and cleaner than the nearby City Tower hotel, and also very convenient for the bus to Puerto Galera. The plug in the bathroom was broken so water could not drain away, and housekeeping had apparently not stocked the mini bar correctly as I was told I had consumed a bottle of mineral water, which I hadn't. They did accept this however and I was not charged.

Very good Choice in Malate Area (Mabini Road)

I booked a 1 Bedroom Suite, the room was very nice, spacious, and had all facilities I needed. The Safe was big enough for up to 17" Laptops which is not the norm. A/C was good and not noisy, bathroom was big enough and water was hot. You get a daily copy of a Manila newspaper at your door in the morning. Secure and safe. Very friendly and professional Staff.

Not bad for Manila

I stayed at the City Garden Suites for 5 nights and considered it a decent place. It was quiet enough, the room was spacious and clean and I thought the staff was friendly and competent. My only complaint is the traffic in Ermita. The hotel is located on Mabini Street which is more of a parking lot than a street during the day. Traffic crawls along if you are coming from Makati or Paranaque. Tell your taxi driver to stay on Roxas Blvd if you can as once you get off on the side streets you are stuck.

I think the hotel is really proper...

I think the hotel is really proper for its price. The room was not so big and the bathroom is quite small but it was clean. The AC was a bit noisy. We stayed only 1 night so it was perfect to reach the Mall of Asia and the airport is also quite near. We could also have a nice massage in our room.

I have stayed here 3 times and...

I have stayed here 3 times and I find the staff to be very friendly and helpful. You get a good sized and secure room with a safe plus breakfast is included. It's a perfect place to stay if you require a visit to the U.S. Embassy as it is only a 4-5 block walk away. It is also a great place and area for the budget traveler or for a single guy. I don't think it would be good for a family since there is no pool. There are lots of good bars nearby and also you are close to 2 different casino's including the one at the Hyatt Hotel. If you go out try the Cowboy bar which is across the street at the corner or the L.A. Cafe. Ask for rooms at the back as my last visit I had a room at the front and you could hear all the traffic going by the hotel. The breakfast is very good. I have been to Manila 6 times so far and stayed here 3 times. The other 3 times I was in Makati. The Makati hotels are more expensive.

The standard room is nice. There was...

The standard room is nice. There was a drainage problem in the bath tub but was fixed promptly by the staff. The staff is very friendly and i would definitely stay here again.
