Good basic base
If you’re looking for a cheap basic room to use as a base while exploring Manila then this place is just fine. We stayed in the basic double room and bed was comfortable, air-conditioner worked and we had hot water when we wanted it for a shower.
The transport to all parts of Manila via jeepneys and taxis are available outside the door of the hotel and the staff where happy to help us flag down taxis (that would use their meters) and jeepneys.
The food in the hotel was less than ok but there are plenty of good cheap restaurants round the corner less then a 5 min walk away.
The area around the hotel is quite poor but we never at any point felt in any danger even walking back late at night from the bars and restaurants. In fact we saw police almost every 100 meters all of which said hello and majority of the other locals just wanted to say hello and wave.
You'll get young children coming up asking for money but the hotel's staff advised not giving anything as most of the time they are just trying to get something out of you because you are a tourist. It becomes a minor irritance but there was very little over pestering in the area where the hotel was.
If you are planning on getting a taxi from the airport (Manila International) to the hotel then be aware that the companies at the airport will shout an array of prices at you, we had between 300 and 800 pesos. The taxi from the hotel back to the airport at the end of our stay which ran on a meter came to less than 200 pesos so I would keep this in mind when bartering you taxi fare to the hotel.
