Nice place ,far from town.
We spent 3 nights in Microtel in December 2011. The hotel reminded me of a nursing home. It is far from the town, but the hotel provides free shuttle services. The beach is nice if the water is there, when we stayed in the hotel there was a low tide during the day and high tide at the evening. The pool needs new paint and the road leading to the hotel is in a very bad shape.
Worst Vacation Ever!
Nightmare started upon arrival at the hotel. I was so happy at first to have booked Microtel at a nice rate with airport transfers and breakfasts. But upon arrival at the hotel (it was past 5PM already), we were informed that the rates we booked in Asia Rooms is only for 2 pax! When it is clearly stated in the terms of Asia Rooms that rates are per room basis and not per pax. The receptionist called the owner/manager and we were informed that they will still charge us additional persons. We were adamant and very pissed off already because we were already tired with the travel and they will give us such hassle. We said we wont check in anymore but they insisted that we will still be charged because of no-show. Then I guess the owner/manager thought of a compromise so they said they'll accept the rate from Asia Rooms but only 2 of the 4 of us will be given breakfast. We agreed since we want to rest already and breakfast is not our priority since we have tours for 2 consecutive days anyway.
We thought the nightmare would end there, but no... On our second night we experienced itching and red marks on our body which looks like bites of bed mites. This is my second time in Puerto Princesa but this has never happened to me before! We suffered from the uncomfortable itchy feeling and now I cannot wear short sleeved clothes because of the red blotches on my skin! Even my cheeks have marks! We advised the hotel of the marks we have and they transferred us to a different room, they said its an upgrade but the room is just the same from the previous one and the covers feel dirty.
To be fair, some receptionist and the drivers of the vans and the guards are accomodating but the hotel really needs overhaul. They have to do total spraying of insecticides and general cleaning before they rent out their place!

If you want to be in the...
If you want to be in the midst of the hustle & bustle, then you'll probably want to stay elsewhere. However, for a quiet, relaxing and very beautiful setting, this place will not disappoint! It's super-beachfront: at high tide the Sulu Sea is about ten paces from the building, but when the tide goes out there are 200 meters of open beach to explore or play on at your leisure. The pool is great, the staff is extremely friendly and attentive, and the poolside restaurant is more than adequate. Even though this hotel is somewhat off the beaten track, all of the local tour companies make pick-ups here. So if you're going, say, to the Underground River with one of the latter, they'll tell you when to be ready and waiting. Also, where logistics are concerned, the hotel van makes noontime and evening trips into town for those guests who want to sample local restaurants and/or do a little shopping. They're very good, too, about providing transportation from and back to the airport. We didn't know quite what to expect, but a cheerful driver holding a Microtel sign was waiting for us just outside the terminal when we arrived. All in all, we had a great experience. This place is highly recommended.
