The beds matress &pillow were outstanding no...
The beds matress &pillow were outstanding no complaints there. As for the breakfast, dont go there, disgusting, the oj was 1% orange juice plus they did'nt have an egg chef. It was as though the breakfast was just put together slap-dash.

This hotel had a reasonable reception area...
This hotel had a reasonable reception area but from there everthing was downhill. The deluxe room had wallpaper bubbling off the wall,no hairdryer, no coffee/tea making,no adjust to air con not even on or off,the shower controls were very difficult, and finally the double glazing was so ill fitting that the noise from the road at the rear of the hotel was very intrusive. Finally the breakfast was close to awful and i'm not a fussy person.It may have a good position but it needs a massive make over to match real Singapore standards.

The worst portion of our visit to...
The worst portion of our visit to Singapore, apart from the cheating taxi drivers who would drive the long way around to get a higher fare. The hotel standard was so much worse than the budget cost would indicate. Unless Asia rooms retains more than 70% of the fare charged. I would rate this hotel 1/2 (a half) out of 5.

We found the cleaners were lovely which...
We found the cleaners were lovely which was great however the hotel reception staff were not friendly, and even a little bit rude. they gave us a room with 3 single beds when we booked a double room with queen sized bed as well as checking in as mr and mrs. we couldnt be bothered going back down to sort out the bed situation because they were so unfriendly and preoccupied.

The Hotel is placed in very convenient...
The Hotel is placed in very convenient place, some meters from the main street. The facilities are good and can fulfill requirements of both tourists and businessmen. Nice and friendly staff, good service. I will recommend the Grand Hotel to my friends if they plan to visit Singapore.

We were very dissapointed with this hotel....
We were very dissapointed with this hotel. Apart from it's decent location, it had absolutely nothing positive going for it. Wouldn't definately not recommend this hotel to anyone and would never consider staying here again.

TQ TO THE STAFF WHO UPGRADED US...
TQ TO THE STAFF WHO UPGRADED US TO A SUITE ROOM BECAUSE WE ARRIVED EARLY. UNFORTUNATELY FOR THE MONEY WE PAID IT IS BELOW OUR EXPECTATIONS. THE AIR-CON IN THE ROOM DID NOT WORK. SOMEONE CAME TO TAKE A LOOK AT IT TWICE BUT NO DIFFERENCE.THE ROOM WAS SO WARM AND FOR US WHO COME FROM THE COLD CLIMATE IT WAS VERY UNCOMFORTABLE FOR US.THE SHOWER HEAD IN THE BATHROOM WAS BROKEN. THE GENTLEMAN WHO WAS IN THE ROOM TO FIX THE AIR CON FIXED THE SHOWER HEAD.THE BREAKFAST ROOM STAFF ARE NOT THERE TO SPEAK OR SMILE OR EVEN SAY HELLO. EVERYONE WAS SO DOUR EXCEPT THE 1ST MORNING FOR THE STAFF AT THE ENTRANCE. OVERALL IT WAS NOT TOO BAD AS IT WAS FOR 1 NIGHT ONLY. IF IT HAD BEEN FOR MORE THEN WE WOULD NOT HAVE ENJOYED IT.

Booked a "family room" at the hotel,...
Booked a "family room" at the hotel, but it was just a normal double room with an additional bed on the side so there was even less space to move around in the room. I was quite disappointed with this, I could have gotten the mattress myself if I wanted a normal room with an additional mattress on the side. It would have been cheaper. For the room facilities, not much comment except the tv had only the free local channels and no tv cable channels (the free ones are not much good, me being an expat here for some years). The location is good, it's walking distance from Orchard Road. The facilities are also okay, they have a good Chinese restaurant on the 2nd floor which had excellent service. But other than that, did not have a good experience of the stay. For late check-out (by 3 hrs), was "fined" by the reception staff, and there was one member of the reception staff who was quite rude about the whole thing. I can accept paying for late check-out, but not stuck-up reception staff looking down on customers.

the rooms given were superior rooms with...
the rooms given were superior rooms with 2 single beds in each room.small rooms indeed. old wall paper covering the walls peeling off with holes in several areas. carpet had multiple atains and had seen better days.old and worn furniture. centrally conditioned aircond was too cold and unable to adjust the temperature.had to ask the technician to adjust it.still did not work and had to off it in the wee hours of the morning. the door too had splinters on the edges. TV had limited channels and had no remote control. wardrobe door broken.electric kettle for boiling water not working in one of the rooms. buffet breakfast needs to be improved. plus points are close proximity to orchard road, good and prompt room cleaning service,nearby eating places.

It's a basic hotel with some unfriendly...
It's a basic hotel with some unfriendly and inefficient staff. Hotel is old and needs refurbishing. There is no manual adjustment to the room's airconditioning unit, so you have to contend yourself with it. Hotel needs to buy new towels and bed sheets. Breakfast not so good with very few choices. I had a horrible and embarassing experience in this hotel with one of the hotel's staff named Tam Swe Kim. She is very rude! My husband and I were already on our 3rd day and final stay at the hotel, when this lady said in a loud voice that I can't be allowed to take my buffet breakfast and demanded that I should pay her $14.00SGD before I can be allowed to eat. Puzzled, I asked her why is she asking me to pay after we have been having our breakfast at their coffee shop for the past 2 days already. She uttered again in a loud voice that I need to pay her at once and I can't be allowed to enter. There were other guests during that time who heard what she has been saying repeatedly. It was so embarrasing! I have never been treated like this before! She should have told me discreetly and in a calm manner. What she did was foul. I felt as if I have committed a crime. So I decided to go to the front desk and clarified the matter to their front desk officer. Front desk said that according to their data, our room was registered to one person only. I immediately showed to her the voucher from Asia Rooms that our room is for two adults with breakfast included. It was the same voucher we showed her upon check in. Upon seeing it she immediately handed me a breakfast voucher. She did not even say sorry for the inconvenience and embarrasment I went through. They were very inefficient. I won't go back to this hotel anymore. The staff needs to be briefed on how to treat their guests. They should treat their customers with respect!
