Needed two rooms for family of four...
Needed two rooms for family of four but hotel provided adjacent rooms as requested. All dealings with hotel were good very efficient. Rooms a bit tired but comfortable and clean. Enjoyed stay.
The room where we stayed at needs...
The room where we stayed at needs renovating, bed is already worn out. Linens & towels are already old. Even there bathroom freebies are not presentable. I can't believe that there sauna in the 5th floor are only for men. Even there wifi is not consumable, the moment you start using it you have to finish the 3 hrs. Otherwise your s$15 is gone. The only thing nice with them is they have a free shuttle to orchard rd, thats it. There shuttle in suntec & chinatown is only good in the early morning. For the price of there room, I think i can get a better, I dont recomend this hotel

Although staff very helpful and friendly and room comfortable the hotel particularly on the guest floors looked 'tired' and in need of refurbishment. The hotel lobby had a notice that said that renovations were underway and that a new style room could be seen but we didn't have time to do so. Our room was a bit tight for 3 (an extra old looking bed was put in for our daughter and didn't really warrant the extra cost we had to pay). Restaurant and breakfast very good and pleasant to sit by the river. Our room was also a smokers room although we had asked for non smoking so check this on arrival. Having said all that for a brief stop over and allowing us to check in very early the stay was fine.
If you like the feeling of sleeping...
If you like the feeling of sleeping on the floor then the River View is for you. The beds are ROCK HARD. They have just been replaced and as the hotel seems to cater mostly to Chinese businessmen from the mainland, perhaps the hard beds were obtained with them in mind. The rooms are small for the price and the "Deluxe" rooms are exactly the same as the standard rooms but simply on a higher floor. Staff are very polite though and the breakfast buffet is fine but I didn't really feel that welcome, for example Chinese guests receive a chinese newspaper but other guests do not receive an English one. Also, when I went to use the fitness centre I was confronted by a plushly renovated entrance with signs for Visa, Mastercard and American Express and was told by a sullen Chinese woman that it was for "man only". When I asked again about using the sauna she repeated it was for "man only". Confused, I went for a swim instead and noticed that the only people by the pool were young heavily made up Chinese girls who kept going in and out of the fitness centre. When I called the hotel reception to complain about women not being allowed into the fitness centre I was told the fitness centre was now run by an "outside company". Finally my husband put two and two together and pointed out what was really going on in the former fitness centre. Not wanting to stay somewhere so sleazy, we checked out pronto.
I have used this hotel exclusively for...
I have used this hotel exclusively for my accommodation in Singapore. In the past year I have stayed there approximately 7 times. On each occasion I have had to complain about the room because of its poor maintenance (i.e. "rattling" air conditioner, noise from adjacent service duct).
This last visit was the end for me. The room door lock would not operate properly, the TV set was not working correctly. Both problems were remedied but it indicates a lack of routine inspection and maintenance. Inn addition, the refrigerator was stocked with "old" products, and a can of Pepsi Cola exploded in the refigerator.
Best for the "budget" traveller. Not good for busines travel.

We stayed at the River View 5th to 8th March '06 and found it good value. The room was more than adequate and cleaned daily. The tea and coffee making facilities were useful. The breakfast was very good, offering a fantastic variety. The staff were polite and helpful. The location of the hotel was good and the shuttle service to Orchard Road and China Town very handy. The shuttle service is not advertised and it was only because I asked that we were ginven the info. Overall, the hotel was very good value and we would definitely stay again and recommend the River View to family and friends.

We spent a most enjoyable 6 nights at The River View
Hotel in February 06. The location was absolutely ideal for us, away from the city centre which was easily accessible by the free shuttle bus, taxi(very cheap)or local buses.Delightful walks along the river became a nightly ritual, after the superb, reasonably priced buffet dinners to be enjoyed at this or any one of the other 5 hotels in close proximity.
The room & bathroom although perfectly clean were both small compared to that we had enjoyed in Hong Kong.

In truth,we couldn't praise them too highly.
The buffet breakfast was a really good selection of well prepared really tastey food which could be taken al-fresco on the patio, or in the restaurant(a/c). We would, without hesitation, seek accommodation at The River View, should we visit Singapore again.

The hotel was very clean, service was good, and the rooms were adequate in size. The only problem with the hotel was its location. There's nothing around it. There are a lot of attractions within a mile or so, but that's quite a ways to walk in the Singapore heat, especially if you're toting a heavy briefcase or a child. There were a number of buses that stopped in front of the hotel, but I did not find them as easy to navigate as the MRT. For my next stay in Singapore, I would stay at a hotel that was on or closer to the MRT line.

We had a lovely time at this hotel execpet we need to extend our stay by 3 more days, however they would not charge us the same rate we were charged by you. They said you have to contact your agent, i.e. yourselves to get this discount. We did try to contact you by phone but could not get through in that time. Instead we ended up pay their full-rate which was "VERY DISAPPOINTING" because we should have got some discount considering we were their existing customer!!
