Great MRT Location
Close to the Novena MRT (red line) which allows for efficient travel around Singapore. Bus Stop was directly out front too. Lobby looked nicer than the pictures. Rooms looked slightly outdated but had aircon, safe, tv, mini fridge.
Given the prices of hotels in Singapore - this was a good hotel.

Friendly accommodation close to the m\\M,R.T
Yes we would stay again - There were 2 couples and both rooms ready when we came in early from the airport. Staff ready to make our stay memorable. Helpful with information of how to catch the M.R.T and great we could check out but leave our bags on day two and then return to use the pool and facilities until the taxi picked us up at 4pm. Thanks Royal Newton, it made Singapore a great stop over for us.

Surprisingly large room but disproportionately small bath.
Appears to be old hotel that has gone through renovations, therefore a mixture of the old/worn and new/clean.
Seems more catered for groups - leisure/business.
Need more improvement at reception. Seems easily overwhelmed if have to serve more than 1 guest, so takes quite a while to even check-in/out even though room has been pre-paid.

Royal on Newton
Avoid. Our booking was for a family toom on a non-smoking floor. Check in and we are issued with a queen bed on the smoking floor - it stank of stale smoke. Requested a change to match our booking, shifted to the family room on the same smoking floor, changed again, finally to a non smoking floor with a family room. Adequate. For what you pay, I do not expect mold on the shower tiles and a cracked sink in the bathroom. Rooms are dated and noisy. Do not eat at the restaurant unless you enjoy sub standard 'asian style' food. And the 'special priced' meals advertised all over the hotel we not available, strange.

Arriving around MN I was confronted with...
Arriving around MN I was confronted with an elderly gentlemen walking out of the karaoke lounge with 3 x GRO on his arms, by the time I had checked in, this was an experience from the old days, slow slow slow, 4 similar 'walk throughs' had occurred. In the lift there were cigarette buts & ash, open arriving at the floor, throw back to 60's - dirty carpet, colours, decor. The room was large, but smelt, bathroom looked as though a mould party was being hosted. Then there was the noise, a karaoke party that finally finished around 3am, pity I had a 8am meeting! The bed felt as though someone had just hopped out of it, clammy, damp! Would not recommend this hotel for anyone

The hotel is away from the typical...
The hotel is away from the typical areas of Singapore as Chinatown and Little India but is well communicated because there is an MRT station nearby. In general the hotel is a bit old. We had a bad experience when in the middle of the night somebody from our next-door neighbour tryed twice to enter our room throug the communication door existing between both rooms, causing us a big fright because we were sleeping. I think these doors should be eliminated because they are likely to cause troubles and misunderstanding situations between neighbour rooms.

When we arrived reception staff quite off...
When we arrived reception staff quite off hand. Would not accept we had pre-paid for extra bed and then they saw confirmation and said a bed would be sent up. We waited 2 hours and after several calls and speaking to a very rude staff member at nearly 1am we got the bed for our son. The duty Manager sorted our complaint and was brilliant in looking after us afterwards. Be warned the Irish Bar is leased to tenants and we were insulted and treated to bad langauge by the owners.

Was happy with the stay. Reception...
Was happy with the stay. Reception staff were very helpful. Had problems with a booked tour and the staff really helped with contacting the tour office. The hotel also took my feed back very seriously and responded promptly, even though it was only for a minor complaint. Great hotel and service at relatively low price for Singapore. The breakfast food was also good. Had variety and some variations to the menu on my second day. The location is somewhat distant from Orchard Rd, but public transport is readily available - bus stop right in front of hotel, and the MRT station is not far away. Check with the receptionist lady on check in who is very helpful and can give you good tips on travelling around. Thanks to the hotel and it's staff.

The staff at the front desk look...
The staff at the front desk look really miserable, they don't really have eye contact and never smiling at you. When I requested if they would book the airport coach for me, the girl at the front desk said no "you need to call the number yourself" with an unhelpful tone. Before I arrived Singapore, I have a look at the hotel website, and I leant that they have a Sauna, when I actually there they said "it's only for men", this is ridiculous, why would they state on their website. Overall, it's just OK, I don't think they are up to "4 star"!!
