Reasonable place to stay with family.
We stayed for 3 nights at the Royal and found it to be a reasonable hotel in a good location. The rooms were of a good standard, and well cleaned but looked very tired and dated. There was no smoke detector and not free water, which is unusual in Singapore. Receptionists are friendly but slow in process. The check-in was slow compared to other hotels that we have stayed. The breakfast was great, with a wide selection of both Western and Asian dishes. It was a short walk to Novena ad MRT which was convenient. The bell boy are friendly and helpful.

Requires accurate maintenance
This was the 4th time in 6 months I stayed at the Royal Newton and the first time I got really disappointed because from the first night until the last night the airconditioning didn't function properly. After daily calls and dropping written maintenance requests at the FO, 3 out of 4 days the maintenance dep. came to 'fix' the problem, but the temperature never got low enough (we were 3 in a family room and we had to sleep without bed sheets/blankets because if was just too hot. Even if they had an environmental friendly policy (which I don't think they have), the temperature should not be higher than 24'C! It might have been the whole 11th floor, because the corridors were also rather hot. Because of earlier experiences with 'the fight for breakfast' I this time took a room without breakfast (my son has a special diet and can't eat it anyway). My advice: when you book a room, mention on your booking form that you want a room with an AC that works (I normally only mention a non-smoking room and early check in/late check out)! I will try again next month!

Surnames
As I had booked the room with my Visa card, my name thus appeared as Leong Chew Cheah. This was frustrating to my friend who had come to the hotel looking for Mr. Cheah and being told there was no such booking! Is it too much to ask that the hotel staff be taught how our Chinese names (and for that matter Malay, Thai and others) are organised ? I note that the front desk was manned by a Filipina during my check in. All the more reason she be taught about or be reminded of the cultural diversity within Asean of which her country is part of !

Worst Hotel in Singapore
This hotel should be demolished or refurbished top to bottom. There is damp in all the rooms and stinks of mould. Air con system black and harbours disease. Wallpaper following off the walls, paint discoloured on the ceiling, curtains uncleaned, carpet torn, stained and worn out. Avoid this hotel unless you like 3rd war backpackers accomodation. We booked for 3 nights and only stayed one as we could not find any further accomodation that day.

Family Stopover in Singapore
The Hotel Royal was great for our 4 night stopover in Singapore. The family room we had was large enough for a double bed (Mum and Dad), single bed (daughter) and two cots for our twin boys and was all set up as requested before we arrived. Breakfast was included, good quality and plentiful. The location is also good, walking distance to Novena Square and the MRT there. The minibar was only lightly stocked leaving plenty of room for our own provisions. All in all a good find which we will use again.

Nice room, good location, reasonable price
We are family of 4 people (2 adults & 2 children) booked to stay in this hotel for 5 nights without breakfast. The price is reasonable for the family room, only 187 SGD per night. The family room is big enough, with 01 queen bed and 01 single bed. Room is OK with full equipments like TV, hairdryer, minibar, ion table ... Room cleaning service is provided everyday. The hotel location is a bit far from shopping centres, but there is a bus station in the front of the hotel, so it is convenient for us to travel to other places in Singapore. We like the room and the hotel location. We don't like the reception service of this hotel. They seem reluctant to answer any question from us. It is even worse that we have booked the Family room with very clearly description from website that the room with 01 queen bed and 01 single bed. But when we checked in the receptionist has given us a twine room with 2 single bed. I have to go down to reception to ask them to change to be correct with the money I have paid. And they changed. It means there was family room available, but they tried to give me the wrong one .... Except this unhappiness, I like this hotel in general. It is suitable for family to stay for holiday.

Very adequate hotel and good value
A perfectly good, rather typically Chinese (as in Mainland China) hotel for a quick business trip. Pleasant staff, food especially breakfast was good and more than adequate. Room was very clean and everything worked. Just a bit characterless. Lifts very efficient with no long delays.
