not like what it look like
the room small and the place is not like the photo shows.the problem is it was in red light district.not worth the money $120 per night even it is discounted

This place was in a red light district and dirty.
The hall outside, reeked of durian.
I had to clean a nasty ball of hair off the wall for my wife to even use the restroom.
Despite the problems, the front desk clerk was really nice and helpful and the room was cheap.
I won't stay here again.

This hotel is a typical small Geyland...
This hotel is a typical small Geyland area hotel that is inexpensive and comfortable although very basic and small. The only real problem I had was that I couldn't switch off the air conditioner. Yes, I could turn it up but the problem was that the air was blowing in my eyes and I couldn't sleep very well as a result. It was also difficult to find as there are three Hotel 81s in Joo Chiat Road and their names are not prominently displayed. The Hotel 81 sign is but which one it is, isn't. Consequently my cab pulled up at the first and I went n to be told it was further down the road and I was dropped at the second, only to have to walk across and down the road to the third.

The standard room is very basic with just a tv, hairdryer and aircon. The shower is good and works nicely. The staff were quite friendly. The place has a stale cigarette smoke kind of smell to it though. Also, currently (October '08) there is a building site behind the hotel and you're not likely to get much sleep after 7am due to the workmen and their machinery making a lot of noise.
It's quite cheap and you do get what you pay for. If you're looking for somewhere just to rest your head and go out all of the days and evenings, then this place isn't bad value for money.

As budget hotels go, this place is fine and will take some beating. the problem of the area is, of course, the 'ladies of the night' (most of whom are quite delectable). Should this problem get ironed out, then the budget hotels in the area will be full to capacity.

I spent 2 nights in this hotel on July 2007. Room very small, clean but noisy till very late.

I spent six nights at this hotel...
I spent six nights at this hotel few days back and I must say, overall, I was very impressed. Especially, considering the amount of money we had to spent, indeed it is a good place to stay. Rooms are not very big but very clean and enough for two people, staffs are quite frank as well.Only problem with this hotel could be its location from the nearest MTR station. It takes around 20-30 min by walk. Since most of the time we were taking taxi I really did not find this as a big problem. Finally I would like to thanks the hotel staff for making my trip wonderful.
