Very shady experience - avoid it
The experience was unpleasant from the very beginning: t-e-r-r-i-b-l-e reception service. Room has no windows and the shower is on top of the toilet, so the whole bathroom gets wet, no divide. It was clean and looked like the picture on the website, though. The biggest problem was during the night - lots and lots of movement in the rooms and corridor all night long, including from the cleaning staff (all male cleaners). I am not a light sleeper but was awoken by doors, people walking, etc, at 3:00 am, and that kept going. It literally felt very... shady, to say the least. As a female by myself, I started to wonder about my safety... in the middle of Singapore! That's saying a lot. Staff was rude and gave me misleading directions when I asked for a money exchange place. They also kept demanding that I went down to the reception to give me the wireless password, and when I insisted they gave me via telephone, they kept giving me the wrong one until I had to give up. I completely regretted the choice of hotel. By the way, the location is in an ugly part of the city, which even had trash on the floor (I thought that didn't happen in Singapore - wrong).

Hotel Rochor is really nice, very close to bugis and mrt, and it's clean, and the staff very nice and warm.
It was a good stay with even better service, especially from the front desk Gwen. She had been really polite, and helpful. Somehow, on my second she'd already recognized me by my room number. We found a little moaning when walking in the aisle, but not whenever in the room. Room was cleaned and towel changed daily. Located nearby Bugis Junction, exactly just behind Sim lim Tower and within 5 minute walk to Bugis MRT Station.
It was a good bargain for a pretty nice service and location
I stayed there with my wife, which was just nice, because the room would be suitable for 1 - 2 persons (single and couples only, travellers with families might opt other hotels or get extra rooms). Rooms are decently sized, not large, with hot shower, aircon and tv. We didnt spend alot of time in the room, just to sleep in it, so it was a nice arrangement for us. However, the room did not have a safe.
The hotel is right next to Sim Lim Plaza, 10 mins walking distance to Mustafa Center (24 hours department store in little india), and 10 mins walk to Bugis Junction (for food and MRT).
No restaurant in the hotel, but lots of food nearby.
We walked towards Bugis for MRT and food. Walking to Orchard is possible, maybe 20-30mins walk..
Overall, decent hotel, a good location, for short-stay, non-fussy, travellers.
Great Location
I was there for 2 days recently March 2011
very convenient place lot of shopping malls around the hotel. Easy access to buses but for mrt you need to walk about 2 minute ( Little India mrt ) Other than that it in very good location.
Hotel81 - Rochor, Singapore rooms are small but clean have 32inch lcd panel. Good friendly front office staff.
Good time in Singapore
This is a budget hotel but very clean and the staff is very friendly, not far from Bugis although we took a while to find the quickest way, would stay again at this hotel.

This Hotel was hard to find as so many are called Hotel 81. The room they initially showed me had mould all over the walls and I demanded another room, which I got and was much cleaner.

Once I arrived to that hotel around 11:00pm, my first feeling was: "How can I get out of here?" :-S. Reception looks ugly, dark and with a bad cigar smell. Staff was fair. Things went worst when I opened the room. I tried to change it 4 times, but the other ones smell worst. In my particular, I got a window room... "Why you guys added these green diffused windows??
I find price extremelly expensive, considering what you get. Definitelly Singapore is a good city, and tourist can find other good places to stay, for similar of lower price.
Overall I reviewed the comments from other guests, but I tought it would not be as bad as it was described. Note: If you book late and it's your only choice due other hotels are full, change your flight, or just stay at home, seriously..

This was a lovely new hotel but they havent got it just right whoever heard of a hotel serviceing rooms in the middle of the night well thats what happened when we stayed there in may I complained on the first morning that we didnt get any sleep because of rooms being serviced and rooms being painted the smell of paint was so strong it was giving us a headace I complained and was told it would be sorted but the next night was even worse I complained severial time in the middle of the night but it still contuined this was such a pity as it is a lovely new and clean hotel
