Do not stay here......!
I would not recomend this place to stay. Rooms are very small, staff were too busy plucking their eyebrows and playing on facebook on their mobile phones to actually give you any useful advice on things to do.
The whole place smelt of damp and the food served for breakfast was average.
Having paid GBP 210 for 3 nights, I would recommend spending a little more and getting something decent.
Two positives are location and shower.....thats it I'm afraid..

There was no one to help us carry our bags from the taxi outside. The room was unbelievable small. It was like a big toilet cubical. The staff was ok but didnt go out of their way to be extra friendly. The breakfast is simple and not really that good. On the plus side its in a very good location and easy to walk around to shops and sim lim and the aircon and showers were good. This hotel is ok if your not too fussy and for a short stay. Pay a bit more and you can get a nicer hotel

small room but for two nights oke.complete with coffee and tea
service .for the value in singapore oke la.
Friendly door men.clean bathroom with extra soap etc.
breakfast lady friendly,sober breakfast but for time being....

Small, Cozy, and Strategic Location
The Room was quite small but clean and fit to a simple person like me.
I really impressed by the hospitality of the employee...
The location that near the MRT Station is adding the value of the money to spent in this hotel.

Beware of your belongings
We had an incident where house keeping was moving out stuff around - opening our toiletry bag and even taking our razor and then replacing it and all sorts of shenanigans.
The breakfast was pretty ordinary - if you don't go down first thing in the morning - you basically don't get breakfast with the very limited variety that they have.
Overall - a very under par place to stay. Only really good for the business traveller with nothing else much to do.

The management of this hotel leaves a lot to be desired. When i contacted the hotel the manager refused to accept the room rate that had been confirmed by Asia rooms, and told me that unless i agreed to her rate the booking would be cancelled. Begrudgingly we accepted her rate.
On arriving at the hotel that evening i was given a key to my room. When i opened the door the room was occupied. I returned to reception and was given another room. This turned out to be a single room and i was paying for double. Back to reception and this time the manager sent the night porter with me to another room. Low and behold there were people asleep in this room.
Back to reception and another room. This time the electricity was not working and i had to wait until this was corrected.
We should also point out that during this whole fiasco the executive manager was present in the reception area. We cancelled our return stay to this hotel due in 3 weeks and booked elsewhere. We could never recommend this hotel or the way the hotel is operated to anyone. In a word "disgraceful". Getting a refund was another performance that does'nt bear commenting on.

bencoolen review.
Firstly, my dates are incorrect. We arrived at Bencoolen hotel on 5th november, 2010 for 9 nights. as we had been to singapore before, We knew the Area and chose it because the hotel is Central to our requirements. satisfactory for a lower priced hotel.

Location
Although the hotel is old and room is small, I liked the location of the hotel a lot! A lot of the sites were walking distance from the hotel. There Is a food court nearby. Also 2 MRT stations very close to the hotel.

This is the first and last time I'm staying at Hotel Bencoolen. This is also the last time I book from Asiarooms.com or any other online hotel booking sites for that matter. When I booked my reservation, the site showed that the price of the room was for 2 adults and 1 child. But when we checked in, the room is good only for 2 adults and I had to pay extra for my daughter! Good thing the owner was very friendly but the female front desk staff never smiled and at times was down right rude! I wonder how she got the job or stayed in that job until now. The hotel would also switch off your aircondition even though you were still inside the room. The hotel only provides you with one keycard, so you can't go up to the room because the elevator needed a keycard if your companions went up ahead.
For the total price I paid, I could've added a bit more and just stayed in a hotel right along Orchard Road.
