Some staff (duty manager and restaurant) were helpful. In spite of our request couple of weeks in advnace for a non-smoking room we were assigned a smoking area. Subsequent promises for rectificaion did not materialize. Porter and housing services were inadequate. Rooms, too small with broken closet and old bathroom. In general, the services from the hotel were NOT WORTH even half of the value paid for. Don't recomemnd the hotel especially for tourists with its current status and exorbitant rate - it's simply unresoanble!Wished we stayed in another hotel. The hotel's only asset is location; walking distance from reasoanlably priced eating places, markets and ideal for transport.

We were given a room in very poor condition. It was a room with facilities for a disabled person and the bathroom in particular needed attention. The shower didn't even have a rose attachment.... We had only booked in for the'day' as we had a late evening flight but we paid a full day rate and we expected better accommodation for the rating that has been given to this hotel.

The best thing about the stay at...
The best thing about the stay at this hotel was that we got a discount through asiarooms, if we hadn't have got the late deal I would have felt really cheated and ripped off. When we first arrived in our room, all was well except that we had paid extra for a room with a kitchenette, but these elusive rooms don't actually exist it seems so we were in a regular room, no money back offered either which wasn't good enough really, then the roof started to leak, and it leaked rather badly. When we approached the service desk, they were rather rude and not as helpful as I thought they should be. We were able to swap rooms though which was good. The location of the hotel was great, close to local markets etc and easily accessable by foot, but asking to front desk staff where to go for a meal or anything didn't really amount to much either. All in all it was an OK stay, but was only OK because we made it that way. Our enjoyment of the stay definately wasn't attributed to the staff or the hotel. If you decide to stay here, the trip will be what you make of it. It wouldn't be my first choice, I also stayed at the Allson Hotel 3 months previously, I would much highly recommend that if you are going, it is also cheaper and has more services readily available to you.

The hotel was okay. It was clean and our stay was comfortable. The only issue we encountered was that the gym was not available the entire length of our stay. Also, my husband spent his birthday while we were in Singapore and I was hoping to arrange for a slice of cake with a candle delivered to me but I was told that "They could not help me." I thought that it was just a simple request from a supposedly 4-star hotel yet they could not do something about it. Tis hotel is for those who just wants the basic requirements - no frills available.

My room on the 16th floor was noisey due to the roof top air-conditioning. A request for a Quiet room the following day was granted ( 6th floor ) Breakfast was excellent, as was the service given by the hotel staff.

I stayed at Royal at Queens from...
I stayed at Royal at Queens from March 3/7, 2006 and again from March 10/13, 2006. The main fault that occurred was that the warm water was rust colored on initial use in the room. In the date of room, I discovered the air conditioner was not working after the first day, I informed the hotel and a repair person was sent and informed that it was fixed. On the second day, I found this same room without air. I again called the hotel and again they sent a person over. I ate breakfast and prior to returning to my room, I checked with the front desk to learn that the air conditioner was fixed. It was not! I called to have the repairman go with me to the room. He acknowledge problem with the breaker switch and informed that I should get a another room. I found the replacement room to have a broken locking mechanism (double lock) With one day left and a safe available/I utilized this room. I liked the safe and internet capabilities. Rooms itself needs additional care. Staff ws friendly.

On arriving at the hotel, viewing the...
On arriving at the hotel, viewing the foyer you would think that this was going to be a very nice hotel, however, read on. We have visited alot of hotels in Singapore and this hotel was the worst that we have stayed in. We arrived at 11pm, given the key to the room and the place had a "very bad smell". The fridge did not work and the bathroom was filthy, Room 1125. We went to reception and asked to be moved, they offered a choice of three rooms, two of which were smoking rooms and one which wasn't. We took the non smoking room (1138) because it had no smell. However, the bathroom was nearly as bad as the first room, it looked as if it suffered from damp and/or lack of cleaning as there were black in between the tiles and along the wall. The ceiling needed painting and also suffered from damp. The fridge far too small and only about 40% efficient. I did notice the small table in the room had never been cleaned in a very long time, all it needed was a wipe over to remove the marks made by glasses, bottles etc. We had three problems with the safe not being able to open it, this I believe was due to low batteries. I did tell the people that the batteries needed changing and one day when I came back it worked from then on. The sheets were clean, the towels were clean but an off white colour, the beds were comfortable. The view wasn't bad and the location is good. The aircon was not too noisy and had three settings. Access to rooms past the 5th floor you needed a room key to access the lift, however, you could access any floors with your key even higher ones. Breakfast was about the same as most hotels in Singapore, bacon everyday, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, hash browns and some asian food etc. Only problem, EVERYTHING was cold! This was partly due to people not closing the lids, if you are one of these people please close the lids and consider others that come after you. I would only consider this hotel again if the room rates fell dramatically to around SP$60 per night. This would be more in line with the room type and in keeping with the hotels general need refurbishment overall.
