Bandarawela town is very pleasant - you can walk around and shop without being pestered and prices are not inflated for tourists.
However, despite its pretty exterior and well maintained garden, the hotel is a major disappointment. The hotel was dirty - there was dirt including cigarette ash in the corridors but the bedrooms and bathrooms were worse. Our sheets had been slept in by previous guests and all the towels were filthy. The bathrooms were disgusting and we could not bring ourselves to use the shower.
The hotel prides itself on its period charm, but in 2007 you expect there to be a power point in the rooms where you can charge a mobile phone.
Restaurant, bar and reception staff were incompetent. Dinner was cold because they had forgotten to light the burners under the buffet.
