was surprised when i came to the hotel as i wasn't reading any much good review about hilltop. The room we got was great and was just right. there was proper AC and the bathroom, although basic was clean. our room overlooked the swimming pool. pool was basic, nothing fancy but i did see some guests enjoying the pool.
the hotel also has a restaurant which overlooks the city so it's good to take your breakfast and sort of see the city where you will be going to after. breakfast is okay, the usual spread but it's good enough to start u for the day. i love the fresh papaya juice, by the way!
the only setback of this hotel i guess is that it's located a bit away from the city center. it's, of course (as its name suggests), located on a hilltop and going down to catch an autorickshaw will mean walking down for about 10-15 mins. it's not that bad though but then sometimes it would just be good to be right smack where everything is ready as u get out of the hotel. it's quite near the train station so if you're coming from colombo via train, it will be just a short and upward drive to your hotel. :)
the staff was okay....not too friendly but not too bad either. i just wished they would be more accomodating and would look happier to see a guest. :)

The Hotel location was very difficult to find as an independent traveller. The Hotel itself was good value but a Tuk-tuk ride from everywhere. Drinks in the bar were very expensive - and as the locsation is relatively isolated there is no immeadiatel avaialable alternative. Pool is ok but a bit dated and in shade from early afternoon.

I had a full- board standard room. The best thing of the room is its being so spacious that it is percect for my daily Yoga practice. The service of all the staff is marvellous. The food is between OK and good. The view is fantastic, the hotel being on a hill, and the walking up and down is lovely for me. For those who don't enjoy walking, there are plenty of tuk-tuks. Over all, a beautiful stay, especially good value for the price.

The Hill Top kandy was a pleasant, efficiently run contemporary hotel and was value for money. A nice well maintained pool and a good diverse buffet by local standards.

Overall a good Hotel. Location is on top of a Hill. Nice view over Kandy, but also a lot of noise (traffic and train). The pool is nice with lots of shady area's to relax. The food and buffets are good, the staff verry friendly.
