Like most members of the Romantik chain, this historic hotel Romantik Hotel Stern, Chur is filled with authentic antiques. You know you're in for a special experience when you arrive. If notified in advance, the hotel will send a 1933 Buick to pick you up at the rail depot.
The outside of the hotel looks like a giant strawberry mousse with white shutters. The interior has pine paneling -- some of which dates from 1677 -- and vaulted or timbered ceilings.
The modern and well-maintained bedrooms have 19th-century regional country antiques and are each fitted with a comfortable bathroom. Some have carefully preserved ceiling beams or trusses, many of them very old.
In 1948 playwright Berthold Brecht lived here for 5 weeks during the midsummer production of one of his plays at a nearby theater. Special grace notes include a rooftop terrace, a lounge with a fireplace, and lots of memorabilia that evoke rustic and alpine Switzerland.
