A good place for a comfortable stay
I travelled with 5 friends and our stay at the hotel was quite comfortable. There was a bit of an issue to check in where we were asked to wait till 5pm even tho check-in time specified was at 2pm and our rooms were reserved in advance (they said our rooms were not ready). After speaking with the manager who was very helpful, we were able to check in at about 3.45 and our check-out time was extended.
The hotel is conveniently located in close proximity to the Sky train station. Its well maintained and the staff was very friendly. There's a pool on the 3rd floor and the gym was free to use.
Internet usage is not free, in fact its quite expensive... But there's free wifi connectivity almost everywhere in Bangkok.

Worst hotel experience of my life
An Asiarooms.com special on this hotel came across my email and I thought I would give it a try. The hotel itself has a good location and an outstanding lobby. The room wasn't so bad either. But the staff were arrogant and friendly. When I got to the room, after 30 minutes the air conditioning hadn't cooled the room off. I travel with a thermometer/humidistat that I hooked to the air vent. The air coming out was 76 degrees Fahrenheit and 87% humidity. I called the staff and they said someone would be by in 30 minutes. In 30 minutes I called again and they said 30 more minutes. 90 minutes later I had to go out to meet friends. I stopped at the main desk to tell them what was going on. I got a nasty response to my complaint. I told the woman that either the a/c would be fixed or they would have to change rooms or I was checking out. The woman said to me, with a nasty look, "Well why don't you change now." To wit I replied, "Because I have been waiting 2 hours for you to come check it and now I need to meet my friends". When I got back, the temperature was down to 74 degrees with 89% humidity. I went downstairs to talk about. They said the a/c was working fine. I told them 74 degrees with 89% humidity is NOT air that has been "conditioned" and she just looked at me. The next morning I checked out. The best thing I can say is that they refunded the two nights I spend there without complaint. I will never stay here again and I suggest no one else does either.

Disappointment across the board
I chose Ambassador based upon nice pictures on the website, which while they looked a bit gaudy, nice enough. On arrival, we were told about an upgrade available. We said we would like to view the room, having chosen it based upon price, and the fact that we were only staying for 2 nights so didn't need anything amazing. The room (in the original wing) was absolutely foul. Marks on walls everywhere, the window barely opened with quite a struggle, beds (they didn't have rooms with only 1 bed available) were like sitting on springy cardboard. It was awful. We immediately inquired about the upgrade. At this point, it would cost the same amount we paid in another hotel to have a 1 bedroom suite with a balcony that was extremely clean about 15 min walk away. Having no choice but to lose a night's pay, we accepted the upgraded room in the Tower Wing. While the room was adequate, the difference between the two hotels was incredible. Food was mediocre at best, and I was greeted/smiled at by employees only occasionally. Pool is in need of a complete cleaning, as our skin was left filmy and sticky after a quick dip. Also being approached about buying clothes Every time we passed one of the numerous shops in the arcade area (why inside the hotel, I ask), was not relaxing, in my opinion, especially after coming in off the streets of Bangkok. I will definitely not be returning.

4-star accommodation
This 4-star accommodation is not deserve 4-star rating. The room is too old and no refurbishing. Elevator is very old and alarmed at only 6 men. No wifi. Internet Lan charges at 399 bath per day, too far expensive. I have 2 phones, 1 ipad, 1 laptop and 1 camera but there is only 2 electric plugs available. Even worst when my wife using hair dryer. The toilet was overflow in the morning.
Anyway, we booked 4 nights but stayed only 1 night. You can imagine the rest of my experience.
The only good thing is large space and nice lobby. Who need that?

Ambas Review
Great hotel in centre of Sukhumvit. Very safe and friendly for female travellers. Two mins from Nana Skytrain, easy access to the whole of Bangkok. Lovely spa. All local amenities close by, massage, restaurants, dentists, shops, bars. Opposite is Cheap Charlies, great bar!

Weekend at the Ambassador
The new part of the hotel (i.e. high rise portion) is better renovated and more clean than the old part where we have stayed before. The standard of the room was good although the TV channels were limited. We found the standard of the buffet breakfast has dropped since our last visit. Although the food was freshly prepared and quite edible there was not much choice. There is a heavy leaning towards Indian style dishes and very little choice in Western or SE Asian style dishes. A few years back it was much better.
