For its price, this is highly recommended for budget travelers. However, please don't expect anything special. For people with family and small kids like ours, stay in a better hostel or hotel and be ready to pay a bit more. You can hear people talking outside your room and doors being slammed.
Fire alarm goes on early morning (2 am - 4am) every day of our stay (Feb 14, 2009 - Feb 17, 2009). Either you die of heart attack or just plainly ignore it. I called the operator while alarm was going on and she shouted at me "No Problem!". I am too tired and sleepy to argue so I just went back to bed and slept. Nobody gave us an explanation why it goes off during unholy hours.
Our only consolation was that the three ladies assigned at night are very helpful with our queries and nice to our kids.
The streets around the First House are not suitable for kids as these are very dirty and crowded with tuktuk, hawkers and motorcycles. If you are a backpacker, this is the place for you.
On our last day, the chamber maid asked us if we were checking out, I said yes, and she did not clean our room anymore.
If you plan to visit Bangkok, ask your friends first and get the help of their tourist guides. You can stay in a better place.
