My stay at the Manhattan Hotel was mediocre - I did not expect much, as the price of this hotel was so cheap.
However, I have to mention that the location is quite close to the skytrain/subway - great for getting around Bangkok cheaply. Even though this means walking through the alley at night to get to the front door to the hotel. Otherwise, Sukhumvit Road has a lot of little stalls with tons of goods for sale - so you don't even have to go to Chatuchak Market (although going is strongly encouraged - since there's so much to look at) or MBK mall if time is of the essence.
The service at this hotel was not quite what I expected - even for a 3 star hotel. The front desk would refuse to acknowledge me as a female, even though I am a female, look like a female and it even states so on my passport. It seemed that they felt that I was either a crossdresser or crossgender, just because I wore a tshirt and jeans. When corrected, they would look at me in a funny way and reluctantly correct themselves.
The breakfast selection is constantly the same. Since a breakfast voucher is needed to eat at the breakfast buffet, there is often a wait at the door to find someone to give this voucher to. As well, plates are taken away really quickly... and the same must be true for cutlery - as every morning I had to hunt down cutlery that is usually provided at the table (normally, only a spoon or a knife is left).
All in all, the location is great - since it's only a 2 mins walk to the skytrain and/or subway station. Plus, the skytrain and subway takes you practically everywhere (tourist-y, of course). My stay consisted of exploring, so I was rarely in my hotel room. So, if this is the case for you, I would recommend staying here. For the price you pay, it's worth it.
