In the current world financial climate, especially in Thailand, the Marriott was well and truely over priced.
Local (Thai) press articles were reporting that Bangkok's hotel occupancy rates were at least 70% below expectancy, the Marriott had very few residents. Even though there was low occupancy, the hotel would not provide any additional benefits or price reductions to encourage clients to consider returning. Meals and beverage prices were EXCESSIVE. By walking 50 metres we were able to find good quality well fitted out local restaurants where the prices were a third or a quarter of what the Marriott was charging. The 1 evening meal we had there was totally over priced, didn't return!
Local press articles were stating that hotels were maintaining their excessive pricing to avoid causing future damage to their reputation. With international companies like Chrysler and GM going into bankruptcy, Marriott's reputation will be well damaged by a lack of custom, bankruptcy and / or closure. We doubt we'll be back, without a managerial attitude change.
The American term "CLIP JOINT" is a good description of the establishment and its pricing!!!
We hope you have intestinal strength to publish this!!
