The Montien was choosen by myself, because of the close distance to Silom and the entertainment district. And as a refugium after a hot day of shopping and sightseeing in Bangkok.
I stayed 3 nights and my impression was, that the Montien needs immediate renovation on its premises:
The room was on the 14th floor and I had a nice view of Silom and the Lumpini area. The size was a little lower than average compared to similar ranked hotels.
Room and bathroom were clean with no detail to be complained, but certainly with no modern installations, which you would expect in such a hotel:
The key is a traditional metal one, the TV set worked after 2 hours of technicians work, the carpet looked worn out, the furniture did not appeal to me at all - well this was a clear disappointing experience.
The pool area was too small to serve the amount of guests staying in the hotel. So early morning run towards the few sunbeds seemed to be one of the ceremonies. The breakfast restaurant and buffet served every taste - no doubt, but again the furniture did not invite for a longer stay than absolutely needed.
The negative overall impression was compensated by the friendlyness of the Thai staff. From bellman to manager everybody had the typical Thai smile on the face and was helpfull and cooperative.
I only recommend this hotel for a few days (up to 3 nights) stay in case you just want to sleep, have breakfast and then start your sightseeing tour and return in the evening to have some fun in the area.
In such case the price-value ratio is acceptable - mainly because of the ideal location of the hotel in the Silom-area with easy access to public transport as well.
