I paid £44/day ($US88) for a 'Superior' (i.e. standard) room in July 07. This hotel is the best quality in the mid range of all the Bangkok Hotels I have stayed at (I have stayed in probably 10, including the Davis and the Majestic Grande, which I would also recommend highly).
The room and bathroom were excellent quality, modern, clean and well-appointed. Service is outstanding - we were met by smiles/sawatdees throughout the hotel and reception/cleaners were all charming. Applause please for thoroughly professional management and well-trained staff. The breakfast was very good quality.
The pool is a good size for this class of hotel in the city. However, one of the few disappointments is the gym - it has inadequate (over-used and cheap-build) equipment.
The location is quite good - although it is a 10 minute walk to the Asoke stations(1) Asoke has both BTS Skytrain and subway conections making it easy to get to most parts of Bangkok (2) The hotel's tuk-tuk is readily available to take you most of the way there (coming back is less reliable) and (3) ubiquitous cabs (when not raining) charge only US$1 to get you to Asoke.
Apart from the gymn, criticisms are: (1) The price of internet access in the business centre - outrageous (room wi-fi access was good and better value if you have your laptop) (2) The price of food and drink at the poolside and in the (admittedly good quality) restaurants.
Clearly this hotel makes up for its very attractive room rates by charging on the peripherals. Along with the poor quality of the gym, I found this sufficiently irritating that personally I would favour the Majestic Grande on Soi 2, but this is a very close call. But if you don't need a gym and are prepared to go outside the hotel for the outrageously cheap peripherals of food & drink, internet cafes, local laundries etc that the Sukhumvit sois offer, this hotel cannot be beaten for all round value and an enjoyable stay.
Tips:
(1) DO NOT STAY here if you wish to have a 'guest' in your room. The hotel says it operates a strict no guest policy. I did not test it, but my long-term Thai girlfriend who registered with me for the stay was hassled the first two times we returned to the hotel (everyone was very sweet though once it was recognised she was not a cheap date - maybe they should have some better system for introducing genuine guests to the doormen!). The absence of short-time dating makes this hotel highly attractive for families and couples of course.
(2) Some of the external laundries in the area are unusually quite expensive by Bangkok standards. The Laundry cum massage parlour 100 metres up the Soi is however good and cheap if you dont mind running the gauntlet of the 'massage sir?!' chorus!
(3) 'Lean on Tree' Thai restaurant, dead opposite the hotel entrance, has excellent quality food in a romantic garden at super prices (even by Bangkok's low price standard).
(4) This hotel would make a pretty good business venue, no doubt much cheaper than the River grandee hotels and the Sheraton/Marriot/etc chains that typically charge 2 to 3 times the rates of the Rembrandt.
In my view anyone outside the backpacker/economy grade, including those who are used to paying a hell of a lot more than this, is likely to come away delighted from a stay here.
