We stayed in Bangkok 3 different times...
We stayed in Bangkok 3 different times during our 3 months throughout SE Asia. Since we used the city as a hub to take advantage of more modern conveniences during our trip (like booking air/resort travel, shopping for English language books, finding Western food, and getting cheap massage), it was key to have a centrally located hotel that was also affordable ($50-70/night) and clean.
The Rembrandt delivered! We got an amazing price of about $66 for a night here, and we'd wished we'd stayed here during our other Bangkok stays. The road to get there is a bit crazy if you take a taxi, but it's not too far to walk up the Soi to Sukhumvit Rd. to catch the sky train. You should be prepared for about a 15-minute walk, though! There are plenty of great massage places right near the hotel, which my husband and I came to rely on in Thailand, and we even ate at the Mexican place in the hotel...decent food, excellent band. Breakfast was A-1 and very good...wide buffet selection and yummy.
The room was very spacious and clean, with a huge bathroom. Like I said, we wished we'd stayed longer here. We were on the 5th floor, and there's some construction nearby (seems they're building high rises all over Bangkok these days), but it didn't bother us.
The front desk staff's English could have been a little better...I had to ask several times about whether or not we were paid up or we owed money, and they never really seemed to understand, but they were professional and polite at least. The bell boys are very nice as well.
I would definitely stay at the Rembrandt again! This area of Bangkok was one of our favorites, too.
